(He left himself no possible way of retreat. He had to) win or perish! FAITH is a state of mind which may be induced, or created, by affirmation or repeated instructions to the subconscious mind, through the principle of auto-suggestion. (page 63) "When men first come into contact with crime, they abhor it. If they remain in contact with crime for a time, they become accustomed to it, and endure it. If they remain in contact with it long enough, they finally embrace it, and become influenced by it." (64) Every man is what he is, because of the DOMINATING THOUGHTS which he permits to occupy his mind.(67) Resolve to throw off the influences of any unfortunate environment, and to build your own life to ORDER. Taking inventory of mental assets and liabilities, you will discover that your greatest weakness is lack of self-confidence. This handicap can be surmounted, and timidity translated into courage, through the aid of the principle of auto-suggestion. (68) Stated differently, all sense impressions which are perceived through the five senses, are stopped by the CONSCIOUS thinking mind, and may be either passed on to the subconscious mind, or rejected, at will. The conscious faculty serves, therefore, as an outer- guard to the approach of the subconscious.(86) (Lack of understanding of this fact has been the source of confusion to millions of people who falsely believe that "knowledge is power”. It is nothing of the sort! Knowledge is only potential power. It becomes power only when, and if, it is organized into definite plans of action, and directed to a definite end.) One of the strange things about human beings is that they value only that which has a price. The free schools of America, and the free public libraries, do not impress people because they are free.(102) The person who stops studying merely because he has finished school is forever hopelessly doomed to mediocrity, no matter what may be his calling. (104) I am also trying to emphasize another point, namely, that both success and failure are largely the results of HABIT! (109) Riches, when they come in huge quantities, are never the result of HARD work! Riches come, if they come at all, in response to definite demands, based upon the application of definite principles, and not by chance or luck. (125) INSUFFICIENT EDUCATION. This is a handicap which may be overcome with comparative ease. Experience has proven that the best-educated people are often those who are known as "self-made," or self-educated. It takes more than a college degree to make one a person of education. Any person who is educated is one who has learned to get whatever he wants in life without violating the rights of others. Education consists, not so much of knowledge, but of knowledge effectively and persistently APPLIED. Men are paid, not merely for what they know, but more particularly for WHAT THEY DO WITH THAT WHICH THEY Know. (158) Men who succeed reach decisions promptly, and change them, if at all, very slowly. Men who fail, reach decisions, if at all, very slowly, and change them frequently, and quickly. (160) (Recognize that you are, by nature, susceptible to all the six basic fears, and set up habits for the purpose of counteracting all these fears.) Do you have a DEFINITE MAJOR PURPOSE, and if so, what is it, and what plan have you for achieving it? (322) Are you conscious of possessing spiritual forces of sufficient power to enable you to keep your mind free from all forms of Fear? (323) The most practical of all methods for controlling the mind is the habit of keeping it busy with a definite purpose, backed by a definite plan. (327)
