The AKP considered education system, which has been based on the behaviourist education model, responsible for several problems, such as unskilled labor power and the low success of student in international exams. The party criticized the curricula for not teaching students critical thinking skills and pointed out the necessity for a structural reform in education system that would replace the nationalist and behaviourist education model with the liberal and constructivist model. The shift from the former model to the latter was achieved with the guidance and support of the World Bank, the IMF, and the European Union in 2004.
