This notion surely reflects the experience, repeated each year, of the inundation and reflux of the Nile — the spectacle of a land almost submerged and then emerging from the waters renewed, covered with fresh soil, and soon green, full of living creatures, fertile, ready for cultivation: an annual genesis.
