On April 12, the communists declared a Bavarian Soviet Republic in Germany’s southern state. Corporal Adolf Hitler represented the Munich Soviets in his first elected position. Hitler, who adored uniforms, surely wore a red armband like the rest of his comrades. Even as Germany’s future führer, he remained a devotee of a weaponized Marx, a strange irony given that Marx was ethnically Jewish.
