I've first read Beowulf back in 2015 or 2016 when I was at university. We studied it very closely in one of my British literature classes. I remember liking it but it was still very difficult to go through because of the Old English. I mean it is one of the essential stories that you should at least read it once but I get why some people hate it. That's why I really like Tolkien's version of it. It's much easier to understand in my opinion and I love Tolkien's commentary. Unlike other books by him, I should really read this one more time.
