"Herodotus is the primary source for what we know about Tomyris, if we use the term “primary source” loosely. Writing roughly one hundred years later, Herodotus included her story in his history of the Greco-Persian Wars. Herodotus, a Greek writing the history of a long conflict between his own people and Persia, takes the perspective that “the enemy of my enemy is my friend” and treats Tomyris as a heroine. Or at least as the leader of the good guys."
