I never thought that one day I would read and finish this book, but here I am — I read it, I finished it, and just as I expected, it turned out exactly that way. The Love Hypothesis is a book full of clichés but with the “I’m going to break the clichés” kind of attitude.
I’m not even sure where to start. I don’t know if I actually liked the book, but I enjoyed reading it. It flowed really well, so I can’t complain about that part. However, Olive constantly talking about how big Adam was started to annoy me. I wanted to tell her, “Yes, we get it, he’s a big guy. You don’t have to remind us every ten seconds!”
After that, their dialogues… I don’t know, they felt really ridiculous to me. It was less of a romantic comedy and more of a romantic nonsense kind of story. But it was the type of book that didn’t require much thought, was easy to read, and flowed nicely. I already know that once I finished it, I wouldn’t think about it again.
The movie adaptation is coming. I’m not sure if I’ll watch it, but maybe I will just to clear my mind and have something easy to watch.

Kitabın çevirisi aşırı özensiz, kötü ve hatta hatalı. Ayrıca metinde çok ciddi bir eksiltme de var; yaklaşık %30 - %40 arası bir kırpma söz konusu. Çevirmen berbat bir iş çıkarmış. Bunu herhangi bir yapay zekaya - hatta Google Çeviriye bile çevirtip okumaya kalksak daha iyi sonuç alırız.
Çeviriden birkaç örnek vermek istiyorum.
1-) Orijinal kitaptan bir cümle:
"The garden was overgrown, full of red-flowering oleanders and with Asiatic pines round a ruined fountain."
Türkçe çevirisi:
"Sütunlarla dolu bahçe ise oldukça bakımlı görünüyordu. Harap olmuş bir çeşmenin etrafı çeşitli çiçeklerle doluydu."
Burada "overgrown" derken = yani bahçedeki otlar büyümüş, yabani otlar sarmış, BAKIMSIZ kalmış diyor. Bunu "Bakımlı" olarak çevirmek için gerçekten kötü ve yanlış çevirmeye çaba harcamış olmak lazım.
2-) Orijinal dilde bir betimleme:
"...with moving wrinkles under them as though the whole lower part of his face were on a hinge."
Yani karakter konuşurken yüzünün alt kısmının / çenesinin, bir menteşeye bağlıymış gibi hareket ettiğini söylüyor. Bu zihinde kolayca canlanabilen çok güzel bir görsel betimleme.
Ama Türkçe çevirisi:
"Zeki gözlerinin altında kırışıklıklar görülüyordu."
3-) Kırpılmış paragraflardan bir örnek:
"The Street of Tombs lies outside the walls of Pompeii. It leads from the Herculaneum Gate, descending a shallow hill like a broad trough of paving-blocks between a footway on either side. In Amis’s famous novel, London Fields, the witty language is used and highlighted in the book repatedly. With the use of wit and pan (word play) Amis creates one of the most intelligent written novel ‘London Fields’. These uses of high elevated language and word plays also gives us the hints of postmodern fiction. As the novel is considered one of the best novel representing postmodernism, one can appreciate it due to the style that the novel is written, by means of wit and language. To give examples from the book;
-It was fixed. It was written. The murderer was not the murderer. But the murderee had always been a murderee.
The quote from Samson Young foreshadows that the real murderer is not the one we think, it will change. However the murderee ‘Nicola’ will always be the victim, not be affected by the inconstant murderer.
- I know what his poetry will be about. What poetry is always about. The cruelty of the poet’s mistress.
In this quote we can also sense the metaphor that is made to Nicola. Here Samson , as a writer, claims that the poets are writing poetry due to the relationship between their mistresses. It is known that Young also writes a novel about Nicola, creating the same plot with the poets he criticizes.

Kitap inanılmaz iyi başladı ve mükemmel ilerledi resmen uçarcasına okdum sayfaları -book budy’im ile okumam da cabası- korku gerilim kitabından beklenen her şeyi fazlasıyla verdi resmen. O kadar güzel gerdi ki kitap hem bırakıp nefes almak istedim hem de elimen düşüremedim. Her şey çok iyi giderken sonuna geldiğimizde batırdı resmen. Yazar yükseltip yükseltip bizi yere çaktı resmen. Sonunda o kadar hiçbir şey olmadı ki. Yazarın kitap boyunca ortalığa saçtığı hiçbir şey sonunda bir yere bağlanmadı. O kadar çok soru işareti kaldı ki aklımda başta kitaptan aldığım o zevk uçtu gitti resmen. Sanırım yazar bir seri şeklinde 2.bir kitap yazacakmış ama ne gerek vardı bilmiyorum.
