Monstress, Vol. 1: Awakening

Marjorie Liu
Set in an alternate matriarchal 1900's Asia, in a richly imagined world of art deco-inflected steam punk, MONSTRESS tells the story of a teenage girl who is struggling to survive the trauma of war, and who shares a mysterious psychic link with a monster of tremendous power, a connection that will transform them both and make them the target of both human and otherworldly powers.

3/5 Stars (%64/100) I studied the first volume at university when it was fairly new. I remember enjoying it. Since I am personally interested in Asian culture, it was good to see that the story takes place in the 1900's Asia. The protagonist was really interesting and the first volume was actually good but I don't know why I didn't continue reading it. (Probably I was not as interested in comics as I am now.) The art style was beautiful as well. I'll continue reading it one day.
