Martin Lings (1909-2005) was a renowned British scholar with degrees in English and Arabic from London University and Oxford University. At Oxford, he studied English under C. S. Lewis, who later became a close friend. Lings taught at several European universities and the University of Cairo and served as the keeper of Oriental manuscripts for the British Museum and the British Library. His friendship and similar beliefs with philosophers René Guénon and Frithjof Schuon inspired Lings to convert to Islam. He went on to become an influential member of Western Muslim society, participating in several international Islamic councils and conferences, including acting as consultant to the World of Islam Festival Trust. He is the author of twelve books on religion and spirituality.

Martin Lings, (d. 24 Ocak 1909, İngiltere – ö. 12 Mayıs 2005, İngiltere). İngiliz tasavvuf bilimcisi. Tradisyonalist ve perennialist akımın öncü temsilcilerinden birisi olan Martin Lings, ünlü bir yazar, editör, mütercim ve araştırmacı kişiliğinin yanı sıra dini öğreti, kutsal metin, sembolizm, edebiyat ve sanat aracılığıyla ağırlıklı olarak Tanrı-insan ilişkisini terennüm eden bir şair olarak bilinmektedir. Önceleri protestandı, sonra ateist oldu.
Oxford Üniversitesinde İngiliz edebiyatı okudu. Bir süre Polonya'da İngilizce öğretmenliği yaptıktan sonra 1939'a kadar kaldığı Litvanya'nın Kaunas şehrindeki Vytautas Magnus Üniversitesi'nde İngilizce okutmanlığı görevini üstlendi.
1938'de tanıştığı Kuzey Afrikalı müslümanlar aracılığıyla sufi Şeyh Ahmed Alevî eş-Şazelî ile tanıştı. Kendisi de sufi felsefesini benimseyerek müslüman oldu ve Ebubekir Siraceddin (Abū Bakr Sirāj ad-Dīn) adını aldı. 1939 yılında Mısır'a gitti. Burada Kahire Üniversitesi'nde, özellikle Shakespeare üzerine oniki yıl ders verdi. 1944 yılında Lesley Smalley ile Kahire'de evlendi. Mısır'da rahat bir yaşam sürmesine karşın artan İngiliz karşıtı hareketler nedeniyle 1952'de İngiltere'ye döndü. Londra Üniversitesi'nden Arap dili diploması aldı. 1955 yılından itibaren İngiliz Müzesi Doğu elyazmalarının (özellikle Arapça) sınıflandırılmasına katıldı.
1955'te British Library'de Arapça Kitaplığı ve ardından, 1973'te emekli olana kadar da British Library ve British Museum'da Doğu Yazmaları sorumlusu oldu. 1959'da Londra Üniversitesi'nden doktora derecesini aldı.
