David Adams Leeming, mitolojinin karşılaştırmalı edebiyatı üzerine bir otoritedir. Leeming, çeşitli mit formlarını sayısız ansiklopedi ve sözlükleri düzenlerken aynı zamanda mitlerin psikolojisi ve yapısı üzerine de kitaplar yazmıştır.
Leemin, Robert Koleji, İstanbul, Türkiye'de, Lycée İngilizce bölüm başkanı olarak, 1958-63 ve 1966-69 yılları arasında çalışmıştır. Connecticut Üniversitesi, Storrs, 1969'da İngiliz asistan profesörü olarak başladı, halen İngiliz ve karşılaştırmalı edebiyat profesörüdür. 1964-67 yılları arasında New York'da ve İstanbul'da yazar James Baldwin'in sekreteri olarak bulunmuştur.
Leeming'in mitoloji hakkındaki kitapları genel okuyucuyu hedef alır ve zorlu kavramlar için bibliyografya ve tanımlar içerir.
Connecticut Üniversitesi'nde profesör olan Leeming, James Baldwin, Beauford Delaney ve Stephen Spender'ın biyografilerini de yazdı.
