A Tough Time “I was a student of philosophy,” said the guy at the end of the bar. “good,” said a guy at the middle of the bar. “how’d you like to come down here and lick my balls?”

Öğretmeyi sevmiyordu; yine de yedek öğretmen olarak bir okulda çalışmaya başladı. Bu konudan söz etmemin nedeni H. G. Wells, James Joyce, Thomas Huxley, George Orwell, W. H. Auden, C. Day-Lewis, T.S. Eliot, Evelyn Waugh gibi Lawrence'ın çağdaşı birçok yazarın öğretmenlik yapmış olmasıdır.

The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far. The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the deadly light into the peace and safety of a new dark age.

In its clinical studies and research, TMT indicates that the mainspring of human behavior is thanatophobia, and that this fear determines the entire landscape of our lives. To subdue our death anxiety, we have trumped up a world to deceive ourselves into believing that we will persist—if only symbolically—beyond the breakdown of our bodies. We know this fabricated world because we see it around us every day, and to perpetuate our sanity we apotheosize it as the best world in the world.

On the day his Philosophy of Redemption was published, Mainlander killed himself, possibly in a fit of megalomania but just as possibly in surrender to the extinction that for him was so attractive and that he avouched for a most esoteric reason—Deicide.

do not go gentle into that good night, old age should burn and rave at close of day; rage, rage against the dying of the light. though wise men at their end know dark is right, because their words had forked no lightning they do not go gentle into that good night.
