DYING TO BE DARK
Some people hate the idea of getting old, and use dyes to hide grey and white hairs. In the past, the dyes often contained lead, which reacted with sulfur in the hair to make black lead sulfide.
Other hair dyes contained silver, and they were less poisonous, but could leave people with burns on their scalp, or a grey colour in their skin. These days, dyes are tested and so they are fairly safe.
Botox
Botox was used first to treat ‘lazy eye’ and uncontrolled blinking. The idea was to use tiny doses, just enough to paralyse the muscle for a few months. As it was being tested, researchers noticed that their patients’ faces were smoothing out. Botox really is a deadly poison, but it does take away the lines that people get at the corners of their eyes and on their foreheads as they grow older. It does this by paralysing the muscles that tighten up and make the face look wrinkled. Some people have had minor allergic reactions, or a bit of bruising from the injection, but nobody has died of the tiny dose used. It is good for the looks of the customers and even better for the people who sell it, because after six to 12 months the wrinkles come back and the customers need a new set of injections!
