Schrödinger's wave mechanics and Heisenberg's matrix mechanics were soon proved to be equivalent by the English physicist Paul Dirac. The single theory they represented was given the neutral name quantum mechanics. Dirac also extended quantum mechanics to include the principles of special relativity (and shared in the Nobel prizes given for quantum mechanics in 1932 and 1933).
