Henry Gilbert (1868–1937) was a popular children's author, and the grandfather of the British poet, Molly Holden.
His children's books include, King Arthur's knights: the tales retold for boys and girls (1911), The Book of Pirates : True Tales of Notorious Buccaneers, The conquerors of Peru: Retold from Prescott's Conquest of Peru, and The conquerors of Mexico: Retold from Prescott's Conquest of Mexico. His best known contribution to children's literature however, is Robin Hood and the Men of the Greenwood (1912), also republished as Robin Hood, the first significant new version on the classic Robin Hood theme. His books are noted for both their historical accuracy, (other than the legends) and their story telling style.
