Frank T. Vertosick Jr. describes his personal voyage from eager medical student to board certified neurosurgeon. By turns comic and tragic, this memoir is a must read for neurosurgeons but also of interest to most readers. Dr Vertosick provides, from an American perspective, a keen insight into a specialty which is often regarded with suspicion by other doctors. He did not initially intend to become a neurosurgeon, but “strayed too close to a dangerously seductive profession and became stuck for good like a fly in a spider’s web.” On his first day as a neurosurgical resident, a cynical and weary chief resident takes him aside and outlines the “Rules of Neurosurgery.” The first of these provides the title of the book: “You ain’t never the same when the air hits your brain.” A worrying proposition to those with no background knowledge, nevertheless this maxim pithily sums up the subtle, intangible change that often occurs after cranial surgery, but which cannot be neatly recorded on a chart. The other rules include such useful aphorisms as “the only minor operation is one that someone else is doing” and “if the patient isn’t dead you can always make them worse,” a contemporary variation on the Hippocratic motto: "primum non nocere." Though lighthearted in tone, the book addresses serious points that are relevant to the practice of neurosurgery in particular and medicine in general. Medical careers tend to be dominated by anecdotes. Clinicians all remember their first times, the medical curiosities they have encountered, and, perhaps most importantly, their mistakes. Dr Vertosick’s trial by fire comes during a craniotomy and clipping of aneurysm. At first the case progresses well, but suddenly he is faced with a “crimson flood” as the aneurysm ruptures, with catastrophic results for

Yellowface means "the practice of white actors changing their appearance with make-up to play East Asian characters in films, plays, etc." I adore the author's style. She has a talent This is a book about plagiarism, internet trolling, jealousy, and racism. It revolves around the publishing industry. June Hayward, aka Juniper Song, is an infamous writer. Athena Liu, on the other hand, is the most famous writer. They have known each other since college but are not close friends. At the beginning, we can understand that although June doesn't like Athena, she meets with her occasionally. Later in one of their meetings, Athena invited June to her home to celebrate her Netflix deal for her book. June was stunned when she saw her apartment. A little unfortunate event happened and Athena died the other day. June didn't miss the chance and stole Athena's unpublished book. She edited some parts and published the book. She did this because of jealousy, thirst for being famous and to honor her so-called friend. Suddenly, she became a best-selling author. Even if she didn't leave any evidence about stealing the book, she was always cautious and anxious. She was obsessed with the comments, reviews on the Internet about the book. Another thing is Internet trolls. Nowadays, people think that they have the right to tell everything they want on the Internet. They don't have any limit. They are using their freedom of speech rights in a bad way. This topic was depicted very well by the author. June was getting paranoid about what was said about her on the Internet. We have to talk about Athena, too, because she wasn't a nice person, either. She stole people's stories and created books about them. She didn't give any importance to the people around her. She used them mostly. I'm not

) I LOVE reading Mariana Zapata books. So this review is a little bit about Kulti, and a little bit about Mariana Zapata books in general. Thats's probably because I love a sloooow slow burn and Zapata books I've read so far (From Lukov with Love, The Wall of Winnipeg and Me and now this one, Kulti. (Anlık olarak bir tane daha kitabını okumuş bulunuyorum ancak bu inceleme yedi ay öncesine dayanıyor, o yüzden bu haliyle bırakacağım)) always have the perfect one. When reading a romance, I'm mostly interested in the forming-a-relationship part because I think the actual exciting part is that increasing but undetermined tension between them. I'm a little new to this romance world -I still mostly prefer horrors and actions but romance is more relaxing on busy times, which I'm in a lot recently- but I've read various romcoms from different authors that I probably did not mention on my profile and Zapata has the best structre for my liking -actually her books are the only ones I've come across with this structre among romcoms so far. For the relationship, I don't like that "all is lost" part after the climax in the middle -which mostly involves instinctive sex and then the confusion and hearthbreaks afterwards. I just don't like all that drama. Like in Zapata books, I like up and downs regarding the relationship but also the communicaton. Communication, guys! Like in this book, I like characters discussing their problems instead of making big -I mean BIG- mistakes or hiding BIG secrets. I liked how Sal and Rey was able to

Review 03/05/22: rtc, happy pub day!! ***** 04/05/22: Thank you NetGalley for giving me this ARC in exchange for an honest review. Get ready for a google docs rant review kids, this is going to be a bumpy ride. Never thought my rating of a book could change so much throughout reading it until I read this one, How To Be The Best Third-Wheel. AKA another reason why you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover (because sometimes books with pretty covers turn out to be boring and a waste of your time!). I picked up HTBTBTW, thinking that I would read a fun rom-com about third wheeling and it delivered that, and it delivered even MORE of that and not in a good way. This book was so unnecessarily long, that I just couldn’t stand it anymore and started skimming the last 100 pages. Though, I must say, it did have a great dedication: “To my love life- thank you for being so nonexistent that I had to write this.” This book is about Lara Dela Cruz (what even is that name-) going on a vacation to the Philippines and returning back to school only to find out that all of the members of her girl gang have boyfriends now. Instead of being a normal person and a good friend, she treats them like shit for having boyfriends (????) and then plays the victim. I had an unpleasant experience with those kinds of people, so it was quite fun to read about (ironically I requested the book because I was third wheeling at school after my friend had a new boyfriend)!!!!! I just wanted to hit her with the back of the thickest book I own in my bookshelf. I know that it sounds malicious and weird but I really, really hated her. She was just this selfish, whiny and ungrateful 16 year-old who was not even close to being mature (or even pretending to be mature, for heaven’s sake). I’m not a psychologist

I don't remember crying this much while reading a book. Tillie Cole ripped my heart; threw it on the floor, jumped on it several times and shattered it in pieces, and I'm not complaining, I desperately needed a good cry. "It sounds good, don't you think? 'Poppy and Rune, best friends for infinity!' " *The plot: When her mamaw is on her deathbed, she gives Poppy a jar with one thousand blank pink hearts in it. She asks Poppy to go on an adventure, which consists of collecting "a thousand boy kisses" from a boy that she genuinely loves. When Rune; her Norwegian neighbour kisses Poppy under her favourite blossom tree in the grove at the age of eight, he promises her to help collect the thousand kisses as her friend. As they grow up, they realise that they have bonded. However, when Rune moves back to Norway and Poppy cuts him off, the thousand boy kisses come to an abrupt halt. Is their love as strong and "as special as special can be" to collect the remaining thousand kisses? Only time would show... *The characters: They were all amazing characters, I adored and envied Poppy's relationship with her parents and her sisters, they were truly a great family. I also loved how close they were with their new neighbours, the Kristiansen's. "You're mine. I'm yours. To hell with anything else." Poppy was perhaps the most amazing, happiest and strongest main character I've read about. She felt everything with such astonishing passion that she inspired me to focus more on playing my guitar like she did with her cello. I feel like this book and Poppy, thought me a lot, changed my outlook on life. "Even through all the hurt, pain and anger, I would have been drawn back, like a moth to a flame." Rune was also one of my favourite characters. I loved how loyal and selfless he

İngilizce bir hikaye kitabı: The Face On The Screen and The Other Stories Çeşitli hikayelerden oluşan ve Longman'in imzasını taşıyan, yalın dile sahip bu hikayeleri okumaktan zevk aldım. --spoiler-- The Face On The Screen: It is quite different and shocking story. Donald Henderson who is a scientist and professor sees a person's face on the TV screen but the person has died 2 years ago. While the ghost was alive and assistant of him, they spent lots of time together. After this close relationship, David proposed to marry her and it ended with rejection. He can't stand seeing her ghost on TV and desperately prevents himself to see her - with not watching TV-. The story ended with his suicide. REALLY SHOCKING! Daniel the Painter: At the age of 25, Daniel West was a businessman. By the age of 30, he decided to be a painter. He painted and painted but unfortunately, his pictures were not good. He lost his friends, girlfriend, and luxury home. After having poor life, one night, he drunk a lot and he found a successful picture in the morning. After this situation, he started to be drunk for successful painting, and with this, he gained new friends. While in this situation, at a party, he saw the picture and realized that was his but when he looked down to signature, it was drawn by Daniel Tomkins. The story is still mysterious to me. I couldn't understand some points however it wasn't boring. A Far Away
