Rutger Bregman’s book Humankind is one of the books that questions negative ideas about human nature and makes readers think. For many years, many people believed that humans are naturally selfish, bad, and only care about themselves. However, Bregman does not agree with this idea. According to him, human nature is not as dark as people think. Instead, people are more willing to help each other, understand others’ feelings, and do good things. In the book, the author supports these ideas with many examples from wars, psychology experiments, history, and biology. One of the best parts of the book is that it gives hope about humanity. Still, when I finished the book, I did not only feel admiration. On one side, I was happy to read it because it made me think differently. On the other side, some of the author’s ideas felt too optimistic to me. Because of this, the book was both interesting and questionable for me. One of the strongest parts of the book is that it makes people question ideas about human nature that many accept without thinking. Today, we often see violence, murder, wars, and fights on television, social media, and in the news. After some time, people start to believe that the world is full of bad people. At this point, Bregman asks an important question: If humans were really bad by nature, how could societies survive for so many years? A big part of human history was shaped by helping each other, working together, and surviving together. From this side, the writer’s ideas are important and meaningful. His ideas against the belief that humans are naturally wild are especially interesting. Today, when someone behaves badly, people sometimes say, “Did you grow up in a cave?” However, Bregman says that hunter-gatherer societies were not as violent as many

My journey with this story began unexpectedly when I saw a vintage GIF of a young woman reading on a train. That aesthetic curiosity led me to the 1945 film and, eventually, this captivating novel. What struck me most was the circular narrative structure; beginning and ending with Richard Harland’s return, it creates a sense of inevitability. While many focus on Ellen’s "monstrous" nature, I found the supporting characters equally unsettling. The "pure" characters—the Mother, Ruth, and Richard—were far from innocent. There was a subtle, pervasive gaslighting at play, particularly from Ellen's mother, which added layers of psychological complexity to the tragedy. Richard often acted as a passive participant in his own life, behaving as though the marriage was something forced upon him, even though Ellen’s obsession was clear from the start. The presence of Danny served as a pivotal trial for everyone involved, pushing Ellen’s jealousy toward a point of no return. Though Ellen committed truly heinous acts, the book succeeds because it shows a "Mastermind" created by an environment of emotional neglect and obsession. The finale was haunting and perfectly executed—a dark masterpiece of Technicolor Noir.

Since I genuinely enjoyed reading The Great Gatsby and felt the elements of the American Dream deeply woven between its lines, I wanted my first review to be about this novel. The language is simple yet powerful, which makes the story flow effortlessly and makes it very hard to put the book down. This was a reading experience I truly enjoyed. At times, I felt deeply saddened by Gatsby’s quiet loneliness hidden within his glamorous life, and I was very happy to see his friendship with Nick develop slowly and warmly, almost like a flower blooming. Even though Daisy’s actions towards the end frustrated me quite a bit, I still found it difficult to hate her. I think she is a very realistic character who reflects the challenges of being a woman in that era. Through Daisy, Fitzgerald quietly but effectively portrays the element of opportunism within the American Dream. At first, Myrtle Wilson seems like the typical character who represents this idea. However, by the end of the novel, Daisy Buchanan, who initially appears innocent and kind, chooses the path that benefits her the most. This shows that she is not simply a passive female character, but rather a dynamic and complex opportunist. Still, I felt truly sorry for Gatsby and his love. Seeing a man who was willing to risk everything for his dream end up betrayed like this was heartbreaking. The fact that his death was just as quiet and unnoticed as the loneliness he lived with made it even more tragic. Gatsby, who constantly symbolizes ambition and growth, dies in what could be seen as a tragic failure, making his story feel tragically similar to the fate of the American Dream itself. Goethe's impressive, who tells a pure and innocent love About to underline the words so as not to miss his sentences You should have a pen next to the continent. What this book taught me: those who love platonic loves The endless love of the side can rarely affect the disliked side; Lotte, who is married to Albert, slowly begins to be impressed after Werther's long-standing attention, sensitivity and looks. Although he tries to restrain himself, Lotte does not know whether to make friends or whether Werther wants him personally. This shows that Werther has gained a place in Lotte's mind, albeit a small one. Towards the end... I got goosebumps when I realized that Werther was going to commit suicide and read the pages describing this suicide moment by moment. Dying for love! Today, of course, we cannot find a single example of this situation. Even if what happened in the book is not real, while writing It is also a fact that Goethe was inspired by a love he experienced and that this author, who was from Germany, resonated on all sides after the book was published and there was an increase in suicides. This book has been on my mind for a long time. Even though I extended the process, I finally read it.
