This is a collection of free-verse poems that are somewhat related to each other. They actually narrate the lives of the dead people of Spoon River. Masters had time to look at their epitaphs and decided to write short narratives for over 200 people. I believe Masters is highly underrated because all of these poems are very unique and fun to read. My favourites are: "Percy Bysshe Shelley (34)," "Abel Melveny(156)," "Margaret Fuller Slack (47)," "Lucinda Matlock (207)," "Trainor the Druggist (18)."
