as i looked at the stars, i thought of their movement out of unknown past into the unknown future. after all these centuries, the traditions, the nations, the languages, the discoveries, and even the memory of man had disappeared once and for all. now there were weak creatures who had forgetten their ancestors, and the wild creatures of the darkness whose only sensitivity was light.
