Zaman zaman atalarının portrelerine bakar, kendisiyle benzerlikler bulmaya çalışırdı. Yüzyıllar öncesinden gelen tabloların çoğu temsili idi ama bir de atası Ebü'l-Feth Sultan Mehmed Han gibi devrin ünlü İtalyan ressamlarını sarayına getirtip portrelerini yaptıranlar vardı. Bu büyük atasının yüzünde de kartal gagasını andıran, ucu neredeyse ağzının üstüne sarkan bir burun dikkat çekiyordu ama o hiç olmazsa inceydi. Yüzünün şeklini bozmuyordu. Kartal gagası nere, bu burun nere, diye düşündü iç geçirerek. Sultan'ın bu saplantısı, insan soyunun başlangıçtan beri yüzünde taşıdığı bir organın adı olan burun kelimesinin onyıllarca yasaklanmasına yol açmıştı. İmparatorluk dahilinde kimse burun diyemez, hiçbir yazar gazeteye böyle bir kelime yazamazdı.
