Fitzgerald bu kısa hikayede 1920lerdeki Caz çağı(the jazz age) veya kükreyen yirmilerdeki(the roaring years) Amerikalıların ekonomik açıdan zenginliklerinin tavan yapıp 1929'da büyük buhranla nasıl düştüklerini anlatıyor.

People Matter. If postmodernism had a motto, I guess it would be this. Race is a category according to people in modern thought, but for a postmodernist, race is unacceptable. It is insulting and othering. It’s humilating our nature; because race means the differentiation and under the differentiation is an aspect of putting yourself into higher

In this story, there are Marxist theory and also feminism are included: The lady’s unchosen scenarios that she has been forced to go through, the oppression by men and social perception towards women, were not equal with men at all. In my own opinion, i do believe that Jeanne gives the fake necklace to Matilde on purpose. Imagine, in a such period that social class differences are at top of the world living, and everybody has prejudices over people due to this issue, you can not really trust a lower class member. Not because you’d have a legit reason for not to but because the cultural perception wants you to think that way. So, thinking about Jeanne, a high class member, who is not even aware of Matilde’s absent for 10 years; does it make a sense that she would trust her and share her precious jewelry? We know that is not possible when you think about this deeply. I think she gives fake jewelry to make fun of her and to humiliate her even more. Because high social members are people who know and are aware of what is and is not fake, so she knew that Matilde was going around the party wearing a fake necklace and everybody will notice it. The attention on her wasn’t because of she was so beautiful and such. It was because they were humilating her with their gaze. Poor Matilde. Social class differences are like the pen of our destiny. The author how beautifully and exactly tells that difficult period was a chaos that continuing in ignorance; Marxism resists against oppressed weak, poor objectification, alienation, otherness, control and uncontrol classes, majority, unspoken truth, and hegemony . As known as the author usually uses realism ideologies on his works it is no surprise!

Transcendentalism influence a number of important American writers, which has helped to create a national literary identity. Three at these man were Herman Melville,Nathaniel Hawthorne, and American artist from the Hudson River School, who focused on the American landscape and the importance of communing with nature. The transcendentalists believed in the union of god and the world that everything in the world results from God, and God can be found in everything. This includes the soul of every human being in which divinity is present. Because of the belief in their own divine soul the Transcendentalists developed a strong self-reliance and individualism beyond external authority, tradition and logical demonstration which resulted in the absolute optimism of the movement. Emerson published some important Works for the movement such as the essays “Nature” (1836) and ‘Self-reliance’ (1841) and the poem ‘Concord Hymn’. Emerson was a very optimistic man and did not believe that anything evil existed in the world. “When a man lives with God, his voice shall be as sweet as the murmur of the brook and the rustle of the corn.”

Thanatopsis' is written as an encouragement for mankind. The title is composed of two words: 'thanatos,' which means 'death,' and 'opsis,' which means 'view,' so 'Thanatopsis' actually means 'a view of death. The name comes from ancient greek mythology. In greek mythology ‘thanatos’ stands for bodily appearance of death. And ‘opsis’ means side, view, or appearance. The poem has a view of death. In this case, we understand that the poet is on the meditation on death, so there is a strong relation between death and nature. The poet tells us we should consider what nature has to say about death and dying and then proceeds to discuss how death is experienced by everyone, regardless of status, and should therefore be seen as something to be embraced rather than feared. “To him who in the love of Nature holds Communion with her visible forms, she speaks A various language; for his gayer hours She has a voice of gladness, and a smile”

Nathaniel Hawthorne was a very much believer in the romantic ideas, dark side of the men. So, he focuses on the dark side of mankind and power of individual such as Hester Prynne, and importance of her heart. The reason why the heroine was a female in this novel is because puritan society ignores human desires, individual power, especially on women.According to puritan society, women are really comes after men,so they’re male dominant society. And Nathaniel hawthorne criticizes it by bringing a powerful heroine on the novel that she has more strength than all the men in the story. And She can stand against the practises of the society. “that many people refused to interpret the scarlet A by its original signification. They said that it meant Able; so strong was Hester Prynne, with a woman's strength. “

Modern life is to be shouting while the whole society is deaf. Kafka was a very smart man. Because he was aware of what was important in this temporary world. He knew that the lust for money of the people around was killing them. In the story, the character could have died in the normal way, but he transformed his form and dead. Still Nothing has changed as a result. Why is that? Because the people around ignored him, they did not care of him at all. It was only important that he brought money. Actually, although the world is a temporary place, it is a spiritual place. It is a place where we discover or feel our feelings, our hearts. It is an experience platform where we feel our anger and sadness. Even when we say human, we use the word human to represent our emotions rather than our appearance, because it's emotions that make human beings human. It is not people’s appearances what make the world a world, but the feelings that make people human. The world is a temporary place yes, but the world is a place set up to strengthen our feelings. Here, if we condemn each other to forget instead of developing our own feelings, then our existence will be meaningless. In reality, yes, as Kafka said, then we are no different from robots, if we think of the world materialistically, then we become robots that really work for money.

In fact, something common in the Throne family is that not all of them see and accept what is real in a way. Everyone knows that Mary uses morphine, but nobody does anything for her, everyone knows Edmund is sick but they don’t give enough attention to him or any effort. Everyone knows that Jamie is failing on his carieer, but nobody gives reason to be better. Everyone knows that Mr. Throne is stingy and that his wife needs love, but nobody tells him that he should do more. Everyone blames each other and nobody comes up with solutions, which kills the family's need to "feel family". Nobody feels like home because nobody helps each other. The most important feature of a family concept is to keep the family together, to help and support each other's problems. Like the organs of a body, the purpose is to keep the heart of family alive. But none of these features are found in the Throne family. They are the family which dies due to their past tragedies and does not try to breathe, and constantly blame on each other. Because actually the tragedy of someone in the family is the tragedy of everyone in the family. If you are a character who does not support to heal this tragedy, then it means you also are dying with your family in that tragedy.

The Flesh vs The Spirit

“Macbeth'i salt bir trajedi olarak görmek kanımca Shakespeare'in oyunu yazı nedenlerini göz ardı etmek anlamına gelecektir. Eğer herhangi bir oyunda ülkenin yazgısını belirleyen savaşlar, kralların öldürtülmesi, kralları öldürenlerin tahta çıkması ve kralları öldürenlerin öldürülmesi anlatılıyorsa söz konusu oyun, politik trajedi olarak kabul
