I couldn’t stop crying. My tears fell on Kojima’s face, mixing with her tears and the rain. But I wasn’t crying because I was sad. I guess I was crying because we had nowhere else to go, no choice but to go on living in this world. Crying because we had no other world to choose, and crying at everything before us, everything around us. I kept calling Kojima’s name. After a while, more adults arrived. Kojima kept her eyes on me until they wrapped her in a blanket and carried her away. That was the last time I saw her.
I never had another friend like her. She was the only one.
