Madam Fernande Angles ve eşi eski milletvekili Raoul Angles, Fikret Mualla’yı yıllar önce, 1959’da Paris/Quartier Latin’deki bir kahvede tanımış, resimlerini almışlardı.
Angeles çifti, Fikret Mualla’nın resimlerine tutku derecesinde bağlanmışlardı. Zamanla Fikret Mualla koleksiyonu yapmaya başladılar. Gerçi resimleri çok ucuza alıyorlardı ama ressamın başı ne zaman derde girse imdadına yetişiyorlardı.
Paris’te Fikret Mualla için sergi bile açtılar. Daha sağlıklı ortamda yaşayıp resimler yapması için daire kiraladılar.
Ama içki Fikret Mualla’yı hiç bırakmadı. Kazandığı tüm parayı sürekli içkiye yatırıyordu. Parayı elinde bir saatten fazla tutmuyordu!
Hayatının iki vazgeçilmezi vardı; içki ve resim. 1962 Eylül’ünün son gününde sarhoş bir halde Montmartre’de dolaşırken birden sokağın ortasına yığılıp kaldı; sol tarafına felç gelmişti.
Bu olay Paris ile yollarını tamamen ayırdı. Angles çifti, Fikret Mualla’yla bir anlaşma yaptı:
Paris ona iyi gelmiyordu. Alp Dağları’nın güneyinde Akdeniz’e 80 km uzaklıktaki Reillanne Köyü’nde yaşayacaktı.
Fikret Mualla, yaşamının beş yılını geçirdiği, 600 kişilik bu köyde sürekli resim yaptı. Yaptığı resimleri Angles çiftine gönderiyor, karşılığında para alıyordu.
Köylülere göre o, "Van Gogh’un oğlu"ydu!
Yaşamı boyunca kaybetme korkusuyla yaşadı. Annesi ve ardından iki ay sonra babaannesini kaybetmişti. Babası Düyunu Umumiye ikinci müdürü Mehmet Ekrem’in, eve üvey anne getirmesi üzerine, "Babamı da kaybedeceğim" korkusuyla çıldırıp kadını dövmüştü. Kadının kaçması sonucu babası, -oğlu tepki göstermez diye- bu kez akrabadan Behice Hanım’la evlenmiş, ancak Fikret Mualla benzer tepkiyi yine göstermişti.
Yaşamı boyunca hep terk edileceğini düşünerek yaşayacak ve bu nedenle ilişkilerinde hep acımasız olacaktı...
Hiçbir gerçeğe olmadığı gibi, hiçbir akıma da ait olmayan bir ressamdı Mualla. Yüreği beyninin, heyecanı tekniğinin üzerindeydi. Onun ‘bir bando gibi patlayan tablolar’ına hayran kalmamak mümkün değildi…
Mualla’nın tablolarına hayran sanat sevicilerden Fernande Angles ve Raoul Angles çifti, ressamın son dönemine damga vuran isimlerdi. Mualla’nın başı ne vakit derde girse yardıma ilk koşan onlar oluyordu. Günü geldi akıl hastanesinden, günü geldi düşkünler evinden kurtardılar Mualla’yı. Daha sağlıklı bir ortamda yaşayıp üretmesi için Paris’te bir daire tuttular, onun için sergiler açtılar. Ama Mualla nezih ortamların insanı değildi. Ehlileştirilemedi, kazandığı tüm parayı alkole yatırmaya devam etti. 1962 yılının bir sonbahar günü sarhoş bir hâlde Paris sokaklarında dolaşırken bir anda yere yığılıverdi.
Felç geçirmişti. Bu olayın ardından Angles çifti, Mualla ile bir anlaşma yaptı ve sanatçıyı Alp Dağları’nın güneyinde, Reillanne köyünde bulunan çiftliklerine gönderdi. Son yıllarını yapayalnız geçirdi. Nakkaş Fikret Mualla Saygı imzasıyla dostlarına yolladığı mektuplara gelen cevaplarla avunarak...
"Çok şükür sobam var… Burada saat yedi buçukta şafak söküyor. Fırçayı alıyorum, sıra şaraba geliyor. Biraz sonra, yani bir çeyrek kadar vakit geçirerek fırçaya dalıyorum. Günlerim böyle geçiyor bu sakin köyde. Konuşacak kimseler yok."
Orhan Koloğlu’na göre Mualla, "Hayatının temelini kendi yalnızlığı üzerine kurmuş olmasına rağmen sağa sola mektuplar yağdırıp bu korkunç yalnızlığında tek başına bırakılmamak istiyordu." Mualla’nın 64 yıllık yaşam serüveni, Angles çifti ile arası bozulduktan sonra yerleştiği bir düşkünler evinde son buldu. Türkiye’deki sevenleri ise Mualla’nın ölümünü aylar sonra, yine bir mektup yoluyla öğrenecekti. Çiğdem isimli bir sanatseverin ressama

Newton was born on Christmas Day, 1642 -the same yaer that Galileo died. Something of a loner (perhaps due to a fairly unpleasant disposition), Newton did much of his seminal work in optics during a period reclusion in the English countryside while avoiding an of his findings in Opticks. Amongst the important findings detailed in this text are the following.
1. White light is made up of the complete spectrum of colours.
2.The colours can be separated out by passing the light through a prism, as different colours are bent (refracted) at slightly different angles.
3.This 'dispersion' (not his word for it) is the cause of the chromatic aberration that Huyguns found to be affecting refractor (lens-based) telescopes.
4.There is no dispersion when light is reflected.
5.Telescopes could be improved by using a reflecting focusing element (a mirror) instead of a refracting one (a lens), since all colours will focus at the same point. This type of telescope is now known as a Newtonian reflector.
