The most energetic objects, events, and processes in the universe give off x-rays and gamma rays.
Newton pointed out that you can calculate the force of gravity between two objects if you know their mass and their distance apart.

Dark energy acts opposite gravity and continues to speed up universal expansion today.
The Milky Way is moving through space at an estimated velocity of 630 kilometers per second.

Türkçe hâlini okumak isteyenler için: yadi.sk/i/GxVQPokE3S5kbm I have read third book of Adams 101 series, and I can say readily that Astronomy 101 is the best one. Author regularly classified nearly all matters which are related to cosmos. Before to start reading, she has tried to enlighten readers about some subjects, such as units of measurement. This is helpful attempt for readers, in particular who do not know much about astronomy. Furthermore, author has began with the Sun, and then has explained all inner and outer planets, in turn, at length. I have learned a lot of things about both the Sun and planet that is really fascinating. For example, even though the Sun looks like yellowish, it is indeed white. Moreover, besides planets which orbit our solar system, author has mentioned about comets, meteors, asteroids, stars, and so on. I have always been wondered how stars birth and death. Thanks to this book, I am a little bit satisfied. In addition to these basic and nearly simple subjects, big bang, dark matter, dark energy and black holes also were elucidated. However, you should not forget that it is a crash course, and this means is it contains a lot of title. That is why author describes all matters briefly.

Astronomers classify stars by their color, which reveals the temperature at the star’s photosphere (the visible “surface”).
Hubble proved that some distant clouds of light in the sky are actually distant galaxies that lie well beyond the boundaries of our own home galaxy, the Milky Way.

Black holes are massive, dense objects with gravity so strong that nothing—not even light—can get out.
When a star dies, the material it created is distributed into space and recycled into new generations of stars, planets, and life.
