Sanırım hayatımda bu kadar detaylı yazılmış bir İngilizce kitap okuduğumu söyleyemem. Bir noktadan sonra bu kitabın iyi çevrilmiş bir Türkçe versiyonunu okumayı gerçekten çok isterdim, ama sanırım böyle bir çevirisi yok — ya da en azından ben denk gelmedim. Bu kitabı okurken bir an bile küçük bir detayı kaçırırsanız, ne okuduğunuzu unutabiliyorsunuz. Çünkü hiçbir şey göründüğü gibi değil. Her şey düşüncelerden ibaret ve düşünceler her şey olabilir, değil mi? Mutlu bir şarkı sizi iyileştirebilir ya da hüzünlü bir şarkı kırık parçalarınızı onarmanıza yardımcı olabilir.
Okurken hikâyenin nereye varacağını çok merak ettim ve tahmin ettiğim gibi hiç olmadı. Hatta sonu beni gerçekten şaşırttı. Kafamın karıştığı çok fazla yer oldu. Ana diliniz dışında bir dilde kitap okumanın zorluklarından biri de bu sanırım. Ama Raya ve Q’yu karakter olarak gerçekten çok sevdim. Hâlâ sonundan emin değilim. Gerçek miydi, hayal miydi? Mutlu oldular mı? Birbirlerine kavuştular mı? Bence yazar bana bir açıklama borçlu.
İlk başta treni çok sevmiştim ama trenin sırları ortaya çıktıkça, Raya gibi ben de aslında böyle bir trende olmak istemediğimi fark ettim. Ama eğer bir gün denk gelirseniz, bence okuyun. Çünkü sizi oldukça ilginç bir yolculuk bekliyor olacak.

At some point, I really wished I could read a well-translated Turkish version of this book, but I don’t think one exists — or at least I’ve never come across it. Stoizmle ilgili okuduğum en ilgi çekici, yaratıcı ve akıcı kitap. Kitapta kişi örneklemeleri ve anekdotlar oldukça fazla ki bu durum benim okuma sürecimi hızlandırdı.
Stoacılık hakkında herhangi bir bilgisi olmayan kişinin de okuyabileceği türden bir kitap olmuş. Yazar ilk bölümde stoizmle tanışma sürecini anlatmakla kalmamış, stoizm ve etkilendiği kişiler (özellikle Epictetus) hakkında bilgiler vermiş.
Hayata bakış açımda değiştirdiğim bir şey oldu: Causality. Stoacılar nedensellik ilkesine inanmaktadır ve her eylemimizin bir nedeni olduğuna inanmaktadır.
Diğer bölümler ise 3 ana bölüme ayrılmış ki bu bölümler Stoizmin 3 dsiplinini temsil etmektedir: Desire, Action, Assent.
Desire bölümünün alt bölümlerinde genel olarak bazı şeylerin bizim kontrolümüzde olduğundan bazı şeylerin ise kontrol dışı olduğundan, doğaya göre ve uygun yaşamamız gerektiğinden (ilkel bir şekilde değil), tanrı probleminden (çoğu Stoacılar -özellikle ilk Stoacılar- bir yaratıcının varlığına inanmaktadır) bahsetmektedir.
Action bölümünde ise daha çok erdem ve dünyevi şeyler üzerine konuşma geçmektedir, rol modelleri anlatılmaktadır. Disability and mental illness bölümümde ise modern stoacılardan bahsedilmektedir.
Assent yani durumlara nasıl tepki verdiğimiz/vereceğimiz konusunda ölüm ve intihar, sinir, anksiyete ve yalnızlık, aşk ve arkadaşlık ile günlük hayatta uygulayabileceğimiz egzersizler ele alınmıştır. (Egzersizlerden en yaygın olanlar: examine your impressions, remind yourself of the impermanence of things-hic et nunc, the here and now, pause and take a deep breath, speak little and well, speak without judging, and reflect on your day.)
Son olarak ek bölümde ise yazar kısaca helenistik okullardan minik bir tablo alarak düşüncelerin birbirleriyle bağlantısını ve farkını

if cats disappeared from the world sounds like a sad, philosophical kind of book, but it’s actually very easy to read. the idea is this: one day, you’re faced with the possibility of losing the ordinary things in your life, and in that moment you realize how valuable they really are. so, instead of asking “would the world be dull without cats?”, the book is more about asking “what truly matters in life?”
the author tells the story in a simple, approachable way—definitely not pretentious. while reading, you find yourself thinking, but also smiling here and there. it doesn’t feel like the book is lecturing you; it’s more like having a casual chat with a friend.
in the end, it’s not overly dramatic, but it leaves you with a gentle warmth that lingers. whether you have a cat or not, you’ll see a piece of yourself in the story. and when you close the book, the first thought that pops into your head is: “life really is made beautiful by the little things.”

The Unbearable Dirtiness of Being A “Fraud”

During the six days I read the book, I was exposed to so many fraud stories/news that I was amazed I have never read a novel where the protagonist defended himself from the perspective of a fraud. The first story I matched perfectly was 
Küçük Ağaç'ın Eğitimi, author Forrest Carter, real name Asa Earl Carter. I'm sure the partially autobiographical nature of the book, published in '76, affected sales. It would later be revealed that the author was a racist and had changed his name/life story simply to sell more, and opinions would change. When I first learned this, I wondered what he'd done, how he'd done it, and how he'd been exposed. What I was most curious about was why he wanted to hide himself. After a little research, it was clear that this decision stemmed from a combination of motivations. But giving an interview (using an accent) as if he were of Native American heritage was a sign that things had gotten out of hand. It's a shame there wasn't a real person behind such a huge success.
The same goes for Juniper, the character of #k:390059. She was the supposed owner of a great success, always knowing she was wrong, and never content with it. The process progressed in a fluctuating manner, but even in her happiest moments, it gnawed at her from within. How can anyone endure this? She couldn't just say enough and let go, she sank deeper and deeper. It consumed her. While reading, I kept hoping she'd admit her mistakes and return to the right path, but frankly, she didn't; she didn't abandon her mistakes. Her ambition took over. For a while, I thought the author could have shared her character's deeper feelings, but someone who makes such decisions can't see deeper than they are. Because she's fighting to "justify" her own darkness, she can't shed light on her darker sides. Even
