"Grief is the price we pay for love." The author is a songwriter and singer of Japanese Breakfast. She even wrote a song called Nobody Sees Me Like You Do for her mother. After reading this book, you should definitely listen to it. This was my first biographical book. I've never read any biography before. Everything in this book was so raw that it sometimes brought tears to my eyes. The loneliness, being an only Asian-American at school, the cultural differences between her mother and father, every emotion, every grief, every chapter, everything... I felt every one of them to my bones. "Mommy is the only one who tells you the truth because mommy is the only one who truly loves you." "Always save ten percent of yourself. No matter how much you thought you loved someone or thought they loved you, you'll never give all of yourself. Save ten percent always. So, there was something to fall back on." "Save your tears when your mother dies." "You're what you eat."

THE USE OF NARRATIVE STRUCTURE IN TRISTRAM SHANDY

2023 11. kitabı
Written 264 years ago by an Anglican preacher, this novel, which subverts narrative conventions and readers' expectations, contains real and fabricated documents such as sermons, excommunication certificates, marriage contracts, various drawings, blank, black or marbled pages, flow charts, sections that have been moved or not written at all, where many of these fictional techniques are used for the first time and skilfully, the most modern of the 18th century novels and one of the earliest examples of postmodern literature before modernism existed. Marx even attempted to write a humorous novel inspired by the book at the age of 19. The novel is an experiment in narrative form as well as a parody of the traditional 18th century novel. Tristram Shandy is essentially the story of a man called Tristram who is trying to write his own life story, but keeps getting side-tracked and distracted. The unique chronology and remarkable digressive-progressive style of Tristram Shandy are its most conspicuous formal and technical elements. The author narrates the story in a non-chronological manner, with events given out of sequence and even in reverse chronological order at times. The protagonist freely wanders back and forth in time throughout the story. He also digresses so much that story components fade into the background; the novel is filled with long essay-like passages that attract attention to what is happening or, more often than not, to something altogether else. Tristram focuses our attention to the development of his authorial endeavor in the moments when he appears to have traveled the furthest by claiming that his narrative is both divergent and progressive. The stories of Mr. and Mrs. Shandy, Uncle Toby and Corporal Trim, Uncle Toby and the Widow Wadman, as well as

THE SATIRIC FEATURES OF ALEXANDER POPE'S POEM THE RAPE OF LOCK

Alexander Pope's poem The Rape of the Lock is a critique of the idiosyncrasies and foibles of English aristocratic society. Pope uses wit, sarcasm and irony to convey his moral message. Pope depicts the false tone of the time and the frivolity of women, whilst acting sympathetically as the voice of his generation. The play is a social satire in that it pokes fun at society in a way that can still be applied in the modern day. The satire is not aimed at one individual, but at the faults and vanities of fashionable men and women at large. Pope's poem The Rape of the Lock was based on a real-life incident between two people, told to him by his friend John Caryll. The Baron was the suitor of Arabella Fermor, Lord Petre, and Belinda was her. Arabella was furious, and the two families began to denigrate and ignore each other, until Pope wrote the poem to make light of the tragedy and to bring them back together again. Pope's memory of the joyful conclusion of the poem evolves with the times. Pope immediately wrote the first draft of the poem, which he then shared with the family for some time. This version was published unnamed in 1712 and was much briefer than the most commonly read version. Things got more difficult at this point. The sensual implications and multiple meanings of Pope's poem became more apparent as more people read the printed version, and Arabella Fermor was mortified when her friends began to point out the crude humour. The real Sir Plume of the poem, Sir Charles Brown, took offence at being called a fool. Pope transformed the basic story into a fantastical setting by including sylphs and nymphs. In order to appease Arabella Fermor, Pope wrote a dedication to the poem. Poem became a success and has been the subject of praise, criticism and debate ever

reading the blind owl from perspective of nietzsche

Sadeq Hedayat is one of my favorite author in the literary world. The Blind Owl that introduced me to Sadeq Hedayat many years ago and it has entered my list of the best. Hedayat's masterpiece The Blind Owl attracted me with the very first lines, and caused me to experience a kind of hysteria with the last page of the book. Coming to the content of the book; the hero is a heavily depressed man who earn his income with the paintings. He takes alcohol and opium continuously to make himself numb and stop thinking. One day as he walks to the kitchen to deliver wine to his uncle, he sees the elderly man and the stunningly beautiful girl through a hole in his wall, which causes his lonely existence to change. After this sight, he begins to think her all day hysterically. One night, he finds her waiting at the door of his home. After this strange encounter, he searches for anything to offer her then goes to get a bottle of wine for her. When he brings the wine, he thinks that the girl is asleep, and drops a sip in her mouth. He did, however, realize that she had passed away.He wants to ignore the cold of death with the warmth of his body, but later on realizes that it's not working. Then, he henhe decides to bury the girl by dismembering her and packing her pieces into a suitcase since he thinks she has given up on life and given her soul to him. The old man he saw with the girl, the carriage driver who came to pick her up, his uncle who came to visit, and even himself in some parts of the book, are actually all the same person transformed according to his descriptions. All the characters transform into each other and repeat themselves like eternal recurrence, creating a metaphoric effect. Always different faces, but same suffering. According to

What’s it about? A guide to identify your strengths
Puan vermedi·107 syf.··
2023 1. kitabı
Discover your strengths, and build an action plan. Take a moment to think about your strengths. Don’t worry if you can’t readily identify them. Most people can’t – and those who think they can are often quite wrong. The reverse is also true: many of us think we know exactly what we’re not good at. But more often than not, we’re wrong about that too! The good news? There’s a tried and true method you can use to remedy this situation, and it’s called feedback analysis. It first emerged back in the fourteenth century and is a pretty simple technique. Here’s how it works. Each time you make an important decision, write it down along with what you think the outcome will be. Nine to twelve months later, review your predicted result and compare it to the actual outcome. If you practice this consistently, you’ll not only be able to determine precisely where your strengths lie – you’ll also see exactly what you’re doing, or failing to do, to take full advantage of those strengths. As an additional bonus, you should be able to accurately identify where your performance is poor due to a weakness in any particular area. There are five key actions that flow from your feedback analysis.  • First, concentrate your efforts on areas where using your strengths will produce results. • Second, work to improve areas where you already have strengths – and fill any knowledge gaps that come to light.  • Third, don’t be willfully ignorant about subject areas where your knowledge is lacking. Acquire new skills and knowledge to enhance your strengths.  • Fourth, be sure to rectify any bad habits that are revealed through your feedback.  • And finally, recognize areas where you have little or no talent and are unlikely even to become mediocre. There’s no point in wasting your energy
