My journey with this story began unexpectedly when I saw a vintage GIF of a young woman reading on a train. That aesthetic curiosity led me to the 1945 film and, eventually, this captivating novel. What struck me most was the circular narrative structure; beginning and ending with Richard Harland’s return, it creates a sense of inevitability. While many focus on Ellen’s "monstrous" nature, I found the supporting characters equally unsettling. The "pure" characters—the Mother, Ruth, and Richard—were far from innocent. There was a subtle, pervasive gaslighting at play, particularly from Ellen's mother, which added layers of psychological complexity to the tragedy. Richard often acted as a passive participant in his own life, behaving as though the marriage was something forced upon him, even though Ellen’s obsession was clear from the start. The presence of Danny served as a pivotal trial for everyone involved, pushing Ellen’s jealousy toward a point of no return. Though Ellen committed truly heinous acts, the book succeeds because it shows a "Mastermind" created by an environment of emotional neglect and obsession. The finale was haunting and perfectly executed—a dark masterpiece of Technicolor Noir.

Without doubt it was one of most fascinating fantasy books I've read. The story was so captivating that I finished it in two days. I started the book by a recommendation of one of my friends, and it was at the least as good as she said. There is nothing more to say, if you love fantasy—dystopian universes, treachery, schemes and completely unpredictable (Unpredictable when you are new to this type) plots, you should definitely read it.

This review may contain spoilers. In The Midnight Library by Matt Haig, Nora Seed is the main character, a woman overwhelmed by regret and convinced that her life has little value. After attempting to end her life, she finds herself in a mysterious library that exists between life and death. There, Nora meets Mrs. Elm, her former school librarian, who explains that each book represents a different life Nora could have lived if she had made different choices. Guided through these alternate lives, Nora experiences the realities of paths she once regretted not taking. As she lives out these possibilities, Nora realizes that no single version of her life guarantees happiness or fulfillment. Even the lives she once idealized contain struggle and disappointment. Through this journey, she begins to understand the importance of accepting imperfection and appreciating life as it is. The Midnight Library is a captivating and thought-provoking novel that keeps the reader engaged throughout. It offers a moving reflection on regret, mental health, and the value of living, making it both relatable and impactful.

Best book on Parkinson's Disease I have read so far - mainly because it is written by a journalist instead of doctors! If you are new to Parkinson’s, this is not going to give you the details on what the disease is or does that you’re looking for. But if you are familiar with Parkinson’s, this is a fascinating history and look-forward of the disease. Award-winning journalist Palfreman’s fast-paced, captivating, and crisp narrative of patients, doctors, and researchers is part scientific investigation, part medical detective story, and part memoir, and it opens wide a window into the world of Parkinson’s. He introduces readers to James Parkinson, who in 1817 offered the first clinical description of the disease; Jean-Martin Charcot, who accurately described the signs and symptoms of what appeared to be a movement disorder; Constantin Tretiakoff, who demonstrated that the disease was caused by damage to the substantia nigra portion of the brain; and Frederick Lewy, who discovered the pathological hallmarks of Parkinson’s. Palfreman, who was diagnosed with the disease during his research, investigates drug therapies, such as the routine L-dopa therapy initiated in the 1960s and still used frequently today, and experimental drugs such as NPT088, which has yet to be approved by the FDA. There are more than seven million Parkinson’s sufferers worldwide and Palfreman shares some of their stories, including that of dancer Pam Quinn, who has learned to “trick” her symptoms and teaches her methods to other Parkinson’s patients. He reminds readers that a diagnosis of Parkinson’s is a life sentence, but Palfreman remains optimistic about what new discoveries may be able to offer Parkinson’s patients. This book is AMAZING for patients with Parkinson's and for their close ones.

The Miracle Of The Universe is a captivating and reflective read that goes beyond ordinary storytelling. Alper Yıldız takes readers through a world shaken by natural catastrophes—earthquakes, landslides, and floods—yet these events are more than dramatic backdrops; they serve as a profound warning about how humanity treats the planet. The sudden revelation of the Ark of the Covenant and the descent of angels adds a spiritual and mystical layer to the story. These moments are not only awe-inspiring but also thought-provoking, reminding readers of the unseen forces and responsibilities that shape our world. The narrative encourages reflection on personal and collective responsibility, urging us to reconsider our actions and their consequences. Even though the book is concise, its impact is lasting. Yıldız’s writing is clear and engaging, making complex ideas about spirituality, morality, and human connection to the universe accessible to readers of all backgrounds. The story is paced well, keeping the reader immersed while delivering deep messages without feeling overwhelming. Unlike traditional science fiction or disaster novels, The Miracle Of The Universe balances dramatic events with contemplative insight, making it an unusual but meaningful reading experience. It is a reminder that miracles, warnings, and human responsibility often coexist, and that understanding our place in the universe is both urgent and inspiring.

Awakenings by Oliver Sacks is a profound exploration of the human condition, offering insights into the resilience of the human spirit and the mysteries of the mind. Through poignant narratives and scientific inquiry, Awakenings prompts readers to contemplate the profound complexities of existence and the importance of empathy in our interactions with others. Dr. Oliver Sacks recounts his experiences with patients who survived the 1917-1928 epidemic of encephalitis lethargica, a debilitating neurological disease. These patients, decades later, were treated with L-Dopa, a medication that briefly “awakened” them from their catatonic states, revealing profound insights into the nature of consciousness and the human experience. Sacks delves into the ethical and existential implications of reviving individuals who had been essentially dormant for decades, raising questions about the essence of personhood and the limits of medical intervention. Through his compassionate storytelling, Sacks sheds light on the fragility of human life and the enduring resilience of the human spirit, offering a compelling testament to the power of human connection and understanding. The ideas that Awakenings on focuses: 1. The Fragility of Human Identity: Oliver Sacks illustrates how illness can profoundly alter one’s sense of self, challenging conventional notions of identity and personhood. By witnessing the transformation of his patients, Sacks invites us to reconsider the essence of human identity and the role of empathy in understanding the experiences of others. 2. The Limits of Medical Intervention: Through the story of L-Dopa treatment, Sacks highlights the ethical dilemmas inherent in medical interventions that alter consciousness. He prompts us to reflect on the complex interplay
