Apply these two maxims to the following scenario:
Ahmed orders pork dumplings & wine.
A dumpling gets lodged in his throat.

The overstrain upon our brains has produced a general depression throughout the system. Change of scene, and absence of the necessity for thought, will restore the mental equilibrium.
In Critique of Pure Reason, Kant calls Euclidean space "an inevitable necessity of thought." Gauss did not dismiss Kant's work out of hand. He read it first, then dismissed it. In fact, Gauss is said to have read Critique of Pure Reason five times attempting to understand it.
