The Serpent and The Monk (Reddit)
He felt the serpent slither in, coiling around his mind, seeking purchase with cold claws.
The monk sat in meditation, and said "Wait. Pause."
So time stood still, in that temple on the hill, and the silence made naked the violence of the voice which offered to the monk a choice -
to obey, or be swept away, into a churning sea of you and me.
The monk only smiled, and said, Serpent - "Won't you stay awhile?"
It's been too long since I held a thought vile - I'd like to remember how to make peace with bile.
The serpent was dismayed - this was not going his way.
The serpent was used to fragments and fray, a mind of thunder and rain.
But in this mind of the monk so kind he found only a still summer day.
The serpent looked for greed and found no need - the serpent searched for confusion and found only the single answer of nothing at all.
And he followed it, down, this nothing at all.
Until, at last, the serpent forgot what he was after all.
