Les Misérables: A Timeless Story of Struggle and Redemption
Puan vermedi
Today, I finally finished the first volume of Les Misérables by Victor Hugo. For a long time, I had planned to read this book, as the writer's outstanding style caught my attention. Now, let’s dive into the summary. Victor Hugo began working on Les Misérables in 1845 but didn’t publish it until 1862. In this novel, he highlights social injustice and the struggles of the poor and desolate. After its publication, the book faced criticism, but despite that, it spread quickly across the world, capturing the attention of readers from different backgrounds. The story follows Jean Valjean, a young man who experiences numerous hardships from an early age. He takes on the responsibility of caring for his widowed sister and her seven children. Struggling with poverty, he steals a loaf of bread from a store one day. As a result, he is sentenced to three years in prison, where he endures harsh treatment and merciless punishment. He attempts to escape three times, but each attempt only increases his sentence, eventually extending it to nineteen years. During his time in prison, Jean Valjean gradually loses his faith in humanity. Years of suffering and injustice fill him with hatred and resentment. This raises an important question: Was Jean Valjean truly a criminal? Did he deserve such severe punishment? He was not a well-educated man, but he was far from being a real criminal. Throughout his years in prison, he acknowledges that stealing the bread was wrong. However, he had no money and no job, and given the harsh realities of the time, finding work to survive was nearly impossible. While theft is not justifiable, the punishment he endured was extreme, and the treatment of prisoners in katorga was unbearable. He never wanted to become a criminal, but circumstances pushed him

2/5 Stars (%53/100) This is even worse than the previous volume. Things are all over the place, old characters we don't care about keep coming back. Denji is still suffering, Yoru was kind of interesting but now it's meeh. I don't even want to talk about that certain chapter which includes Denji and Yoru. Last 2 chapters were okay that's why the rating went up a bit. I'm just waiting this to be over so I can move on...As I mentioned many times before, I don't really have high hopes for this anymore.

Had it not been for the thoughtful gesture of a dear friend who gifted me this book, I might have dismissed it entirely due to my preconceived notions about its title and cover. Admittedly, I had my reservations, and it’s likely that I wouldn’t have picked it up on my own. However, this gift turned out to be a profound treasure, and I am endlessly grateful that it found its way into my hands. This remarkable work, penned by a psychiatrist with a deeply spiritual perspective, feels like a balm for the soul. It addresses with striking clarity and empathy the existential crises that so many of us grapple with. For anyone burdened by the relentless weight of perfectionism, which often feels like a self-imposed prison, this book provides not only understanding but also a pathway to liberation. Furthermore, it speaks to the unspoken wounds we carry—the lingering bitterness towards life’s unfairness, the inner restlessness, and the quiet despair we sometimes feel but cannot articulate. What sets this book apart is how the author masterfully intertwines these psychological insights with faith. Through a deeply religious lens, he reminds us of Allah’s infinite and unconditional love, offering us a profound perspective on life’s trials. He encourages us to see every challenge as an opportunity to grow closer to our Creator, to interpret our struggles as part of a divine plan rather than as misfortunes, and to cultivate gratitude even in the face of adversity. These reflections are both humbling and transformative, as they guide the reader toward a sense of peace rooted in faith. This is not merely a book to read once and set aside. It is the kind of work that demands revisiting, reflection, and deep absorption. I know I will return to its pages multiple times, each time

3/5 Stars (%62/100) After a brilliant volume, this one was considerably weaker in many ways. The first two chapters are dedicated entirely to Allen and Nolan's adventures and those were great. Then, the sequid guy Rus finally shows up and those parts were meeh. I don't really enjoy that plotline at all. Mark's inner conflict is really interesting, how he's all powerful but still tries to hold back. When he does, the people he loves get hurt. I also would like to mention the extremes Cecil goes to protect Earth. He is a good example of an anti-hero and though he's a massive jerk, he is a jerk that wants to protect humans, whatever the cost. This volume serves as a preparation before the major war that's coming.

5/5 Stars (%93/100) Wow wow wow! The last two volumes were really setting everything up for this. Angstrom Levy starts moving and sends a bunch of Invincibles to destroy Earth and as if those parts were not brutal or tragic enough, another strong possibly the strongest Viltrumite we have ever seen appears. Invincible's fight with him was great, literally made me gasp. Non-stop action from start to finish, this was a great volume. I also like that Eve is not totally useless and can hold out on her own. Definitely one of the best volumes so far!

5/5 Stars (%93/100) And the Eclipse is upon us...This was definitely the best volume so far. I've always known what was coming but man, this is intense. We finally enter Griffith's mind and once again see the castle on top, his dream. That is the dream that Guts made him forget. It is clear Guts is special, we don't know if it's sexual, romantic, friendship or obsession but it is clear as day that Guts almost made Griffith leave his dream behind. Griffith is also special to Guts, as he is to other Hawks like Casca. But now everything is about to change because all of them are sacrifices including Guts. Griffith's dream was too great for him to give up and all the others will suffer because of it, because of him.
