“If you watch it objectively, you will come to see that much of what the voice says is meaningless. Most of the talking is just a waste of time and energy. The truth is that most of life will unfold in accordance with forces far outside your control, regardless of what your mind says about it. It’s like sitting down at night and deciding whether you want the sun to come up in the morning. The bottom line is, the sun will come up and the sun will go down.”
Immanence carries the idea of God’s nearness, his presence in the world, and his working through nature. An extreme version of immanence is found in pantheism, which claims that God is the world and the world is God. Transcendence, on the other hand, implies the reality of God apart from the world, different, above, and beyond. An extreme version of transcendence is found among the deists, for whom God is separate and remote from the world, as a watchmaker who makes a watch but then leaves it to operate without his attention.

The God of the deists has sometimes been called the watchmaker God, who created the world as a watchmaker makes a watch and then winds it up and lets it run. Since God was a perfect watchmaker, there was no need for him to interfere with the world later. Hence the deists rejected anything that seemed to be an interference or intervention of God with the world, such as miracles or a special revelation through the Bible.
“Star,” Nazh said softly, “you need to stop worrying about that one. The horde will be gone from this ship as soon as Xisis finds a proper ship’s doctor.”
“Master Hoid told me to watch over the crew,” she whispered.
You might think you want an expensive car, a fancy watch, and a huge house. But I’m telling you, you don’t. What you want is respect and admiration from other people, and you think having expensive stuff will bring it. It almost never does—especially from the people you want to respect and admire you.
