Bokharic Language (Iranian-Judeo-Tajik Write Type: Cyrillic, Hebrew)
Another quasi-indigenous minority language of Uzbekistan is the Iranian Bokharic language spoken by the Bukharan Jewish population. Many of the official 10,000 speakers of Bukharan have emigrated to Israel. Lastly we find the small Uzbeki Arabic enclaves in the southern part of the country with a few thousand speakers at most remaining. Finally, although not listed in any official records, speakers of the Parya language are found in the upper part of the Surkhandarya valley (Payne 1997: 145), Uzbekistan. This endangered Indo-Aryan language has an estimated population of 1,500 speakers in Uzbekistan and another 1,000-2,500 in Tajikistan and Afghanistan.
