Poulantzas
The state is dependent upon economic growth for its survival. The state therefore plays a central role in naturalizing the inequalities of capitalism as inevitable and desirable. People’s needs are portrayed by the organs of state as being identical to the needs of capitalism. The capitalist state takes many forms, such as fascist or social democratic, and this form is dependent upon numerous political and social factors. However, because of the structural constraints of capitalism, the state is always led back to its primary function of maintaining the conditions for capitalist accumulation.
