This relatively short book is about an exceptional man with an extraordinary memory capacity. The author introduced him as "a Jewish boy who, having failed as a musician and as a journalist, had become a mnemonist". Whilst the focus of the book is the subject’s "vast memory", what the author eventually depicts is a man whose total personality is truly unique and complex. What emerges is a picture of a strange man with very great expectations but unfulfilled ambitions, whose inexhaustible memory capacity is matched only by his enigmatic nature. Quite fascinating is the author’s forensic and painstaking unraveling of the underlying mechanism behind this man’s phenomenal memory and unusual character (page 4). The book’s comprehensive approach was guided by the author’s precept that ‘the thoughtful physician is never interested merely in the course of a disease he happens to be studying at the moment, but tries to determine what effect a disturbance has on other organic processes…thus giving rise to the total picture of disease (pages 4-5). He exemplified this precept throughout the book, urging others to follow his example and study other psychological syndromes such as this (page 5).
The author, a psychologist and neurologist, studied the protagonist, now known as Solomon Shereshevsky, for almost thirty years, starting in the 1920’s. His approach was methodical, typified by a keen attention to detail, and carried out over a long period of time. What he unearthed was a rare and exceptional man whose memory he described as ‘one of the keenest the literature on the subject has ever described’ (page 3). It didn’t take much testing for the author to realise that "it was impossible to establish a point of limit to the capacity or the duration of his memory" because he had the

Even though this book probably includes more stories, I only read the I Have No Mouth story from a pdf and this is the only book that comes up when I search the story, so I will be only writing about this story and not the actual book.
I Have No Mouth & I Must Scream is probably hands down the best sci-fi short story I've ever read along with "Answer" by Fredric Brown. It is very graphic, violent, raw and disgusting. Even though it makes me question the sanity of the writer as I read the graphic depictions of AM's torture of humans - or what's left of them - I cannot help but be amazed at how great the story is at making me feel such an inexplicable horror beyond imagination. It is very hard to make someone feel such an existential horror, especially through the medium of writing. And yet this story thoroughly encapsulates the feeling of utter despair in a time and world unimaginable to us for creatures that no longer can be called human. And despite all it has done, probably for the way he "feels" an immense hatred, the machine AM is merely a shadow of the worst parts of humanity despite surpassing its creators in the ways it can create wonders. The machine is more man than any of the humans left in the story for the way it seeks a meaningless revenge and plays with humans the way humans play with ants. Sadistic at best like a child-god.

Mutlaka okunması gerekenlerdenRoman
Bu kitap için söylenecek söz bulamıyorum, ne yazsam çok yavan kalacakmış gibi hissediyorum, ama bir yandan da içim o kadar dolu. Sadece herkesin mutlaka okuması gereken bir kitap olduğunu düşünüyorum. Herkesin gerçekten mutlaka okuması gereken bir kitap. Kitap her yönden kendimi, hayatı, insan ilişkilerini sorgulamamı, hakkında düşünmemi sağladı. Herkesin hayatına en ufaktan bile olsa bir şeyler katacağını düşündüğüm bir kitap, okurken yanınızda peçete bulundurmanız da ek olarak iyi olur :)
Son olarak ben kitabı İngilizcesinden okudum, yazarın dili yalın ve bir o kadar da şiirimsiydi.
B2 seviyesi için rahatlıkla okunabilecek bir kitap, ingilizceniz varsa mutlaka ama mutlaka kendi dilinden okuyun. Yazarın kelime oyunlarına, kelimeleri, olay örgülerini birbirine bağlayışına hayran olacaksınız.

Herkese merhaba. Kitabın konusunu kısaca anlatarak başlayayım Salvador, aşağıda kendisinden Sal diye bahsettim kitapta öyle sesleniyorlar, babası ve arkadaşları arasındaki ilişkiyi anlatıyor. Salvador lisenin son sınıfa başladığına karakterinde değişimler meydana geliyor ve Salvador kendini kaybolmuş hissediyor. Biraz da onun kendini bulma hikayesini okuyoruz. Kitap hakkında şunu da söylemek istiyorum: olaylar oluyor ve siz bunun getirdiği duyguları hissediyorsunuz.
Kitapta en sevdiğim şey kesinlikle karakterlerdi. Salvador, Sam, Fito, Mima, Mr.V kesinlikle hepsini sevdim. Arka plandaki karakterler de Sal'in akrabaları, Sam'in teyzesi, Marcos... Karakterlerin birbiriyle olan ilişkisi kesinlikle çok tatlıydı. Fito, Sam ve Sal'in arkadaşlığı yaptıkları pijama partileri Sam ve Sal'in arkadaşları için yaptıkları şey, WFTD, kelimeler ile ilgili şeyler... Mr.V kesinlikle çok tatlı bir babaydı Sal ile konuşurken söyledikleri baba oğul ilişkileri Sal'i daha evlat edinmeden olan ilişkileri okuması kesinlikle çok güzel olan bir karakterdi.Sal ve Mima'sının ilişkileri de öyle Mima'nın anlattığı hikayeler, diğerleriyle konuşması, hastalığı aramızdan biri gibiydi.
Kitabın başı biraz yavaş da gitse sonunda varılan nokta malum mektup ve Sal'in yazdığı yazı çok güzeldi. İç ısıtırken sizi biraz da kıran bir hikayeydi. Uzun zamandır karakterleri bu kadar sevdiğim bir kitap olmamıştı. Son olarak kitabı İngilizce olarak da çok rahatlıkla okuyabilirsiniz dili gayet kolaydı.
