Johan Harstad; Bir nesir derlemesi olan ilk eseri Herfra blir du bare eldre [From Here You Only Get Older] 2001’de yayımlandı. Ertesi yıl kısa hikâyelerden oluşan kitabı Ambulanse [Ambulance], 2005 yılında da Buzz Aldrin, hvor ble det av deg i alt mylderet? [Buzz Aldrin, What Happened to You in All the Confusion?] isimli romanı çıktı. Roman Amerika Birleşik Devletleri, Fransa, Almanya, Rusya ve Kore dahil olmak üzere on ülkede basılmıştır. 2007’de yayımladığı romanı Hässelby ile gençlik edebiyatı dalında Norveç Eleştirmenler Birliği ödülünü kazanan Harstad, ayrıca dört tiyatro oyunu yazmıştır.
