1930'da dönüşüm sürecini tamamladı, yasal adını Lili Ilse Elvenes olarak değiştirdi ve resim yapmayı bıraktı.
Lili Elbe adı, kendisine Kopenhaglı gazeteci Louise Lassen tarafından verildi.
