Cute affirmations but at some point they started to make me feel as if i was reading a self-improvement book and i did not like that feeling at all. There are some lines that spoke to me, i highlighted a few. But overall, i also think that these poems were pretty mediocre.
“We are standing at the edge of the world and yet we still do not meet. You’re soaked in daylight and I am covered in the night. My heart yearns for our eclipse.” is my favourite quote from the book.
And that poem about the age of 23 was a bit devastating.
“Power is the ultimate aphrodisiac.”
Oh, this book is the perfect embodiment of Venus in Scorpio. That’s insane. That unquenching hunger presents itself in all forms in this book and i’m digging it.
The book is actually a great study on the human condition. As a french literature student, i analyzed this book, however i don’t have any energy to write all my analysis down here. All i’m going to say is that it has a very pessimistic and dark tone, be prepared for an incredibly dreary and dull reading experience. Yeah, it’s all about the ‘war is absurd’ stuff. The philosophies of existentialism and absurdity; the ideas of anti-colonialism, anti-capitalism, anti-nationalism and nihilism are very prevalent in this book. Personally, i geniunely hated every page of it but i had to read it for a class. I’ll probably never come back to this.
