Clinical correlates of suicide attempts included purging behaviors, depression, substance abuse, and history of childhood physical or sexual abuse (Franko & Keel, 2006). Prospective predictors of fatal outcome due to any causes (suicide and non-suicide) included poor psychosocial functioning, longer duration of follow-up, and severity of alcohol use disorders (Keel et al., 2003). Thus, comorbid substance use disorders are associated with increased suicide attempts, and severity of alcohol use disorder predicts increased risk of premature death in AN.
