Hard Times Hard Times by Charles Dickens displays ideas of gender, class, politic of the Victorian Age but also it represents the importance of education, social categorization, and social impacts of the individuals. The novel has relevant ideas in those perspectives. Dickens portrays a misleading society. Charles Dickens (1812-1870) is an English author and critic. Not only for his time but also today, he is a well-known author. He mainly defines the Victorian age. 1854 is the year when he publishes Hard Times. There are necessary characteristics of the Victorian Age in the book. The first significant point is that the location of the book is Manchester where the working-class lives. The industrial social life's effects are apparent in the book. The book begins with a girl whose name is Sissy Jupe. She likes illusions of the world, imaginations, etc. But she does not match with the Thomas Gradgrind’s analytic ideas who support that ‘’this is the principle on which I bring up these children. Stick to Facts, sir!’’. Because in his idea there is only black and white or two plus two always four. Another notable concern is that ‘The school children are treated as numbers from an early age, just as the workers'. The beliefs are required to place in their minds. Sissy comes from the working class and her father can not afford the economical obstacles. He lefts her daughter and she has to stay with Gradginds and she always waits for a letter from her father. The conditions here are related to the Victorian Period working-class difficulties. It is because of the political, social, and economical circumstances of the time which require people to work extremely hard and survive in horrifying conditions. Why people work extremely in the working-class is related to the

*It may contain spoilers* Thomas More wrote the book in Medieval England in Latin. Medival, also known as the dark age, is a time period dominated by scholastic thought and the ideology of Christianity. In this period, there was no progress in science, human rights and freedom were prevented, people were used as slaves, class separations and reformations prevailed. The Pope, who strictly opposed to divorce, rejected this. Thereby King Henry argued that he did not legitimize the papacy and that the King had to be at the head of the British churches and had it accepted in his parliament. Thomas More rejected king's persuance by saying that Parliament, who can not say God is not God cannot put the king in front of the church, and his opposition to religious reform let to his death sentence, but the real reason he risked death is the because he believes thoughts cannot be a crime. Thomas More died at the request of the king not to give up his faith and thought. Thomas More who is a lawyer creates an island in Greek that means nowhere. The name of island is utopia which takes its name from its founder king Utopus. This island portrays Thomas More's ideal dream country. This island is exact opposite of the England of the period in every mean. Hythloday have sailed with a historical figure, Amerigo Vespucci, lends credibility to his stories. It was in the new world that he came into contact with the utopians, an island people who live in what

Comparison Between Pride and Prejudice and Wuthering Heights  There are many authors who show us 18th century British society. While some of the authors glorify the community life in the 18th century, some of them criticize the century by their strict rules about the women and social discriminations. Undoubtedly, Emily Bronte and Jane Austen are known as for social criticism or acute perception of gender roles in their society. The works of these two important authors are not about the French Revolution or the wars. They prefer generally to focus on ordinary people, daily life and love. Our writers, who lived in a time when marriages dictated the status of women in society, expressed themselves in a way and produced excellent works .
