Ways to teach your child about money without needing to give them money
1. Food Shopping
Under 10Give them your budget amount and a calculator. Get them to add up each product and ensure they keep you within your budget.
Over 10Get them involved in list creation, let them pick up the items, track the spending on calculator. Gives them money responsibility, teaches mindful spending and budgeting.
2. Playing Games
All different games like Monopoly you can play with your kids that teach various lessons on Money. From coin recognition to creating a wealth formula.
3. Reading Books
Books such as Rich Kid Smart Kid are fantastic to read together (aged 11 +). There are so many lessons to teach both the child and parent about money and money management.
4. Talking
Share with them your money saving tips and tricks if you have any. Share your budgeting methods. Share with them debts you regret and how you’ve learnt to avoid them.
5. Practical Involvement
Get them to open their own bank account for when they do have money and to do your budget with you. Let them get involved in the active management of household finances, age depending.
