Imagine a world where a patient goes to a clinic and gets prescribed highly addictive opioids because it is the end of the doctor’s long day – or that different sentences are given to people who committed the same crimes because one judge hasn’t had lunch yet. These are some of the many real-world examples of “noise” that are mentioned in Noise: A Flaw in Human Judgment by renowned psychologist and winner of the 2002 Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences Daniel Kahneman. Noise is the follow-up to his previous book Thinking, Fast and Slow, released in 2011, which brought attention to his work on how cognitive biases shape judgment. In Noise, Kahneman and his co-authors, Oliver Sibony and Cass R. Sunstein, explore the other type of error impacting our judgments: noise. The book follows the premise that “wherever there is judgment, there is noise – and more of it than you think”. If noise is so prevalent, why is it not widely spoken about? Kahneman notes that noise can only be identified in statistics, making it more difficult to track, which means it tends to go unnoticed and unmentioned. Noise is broken up into six parts. It begins with the difference between noise (random scatter) and bias (systematic deviations), the nature of human judgment and how to measure accuracy and error. It also goes into predictive judgment, human psychology and the causes of noise, how to improve judgments and prevent error, and what is the right level of noise. Who knew that important decisions could be swayed by seemingly redundant factors? Such as who spoke first in the meeting, what day of the week it is or whether the local football team won last night’s match. Many different types of noise are discussed in the book, but the most significant one, Kahneman says, is system noise. System

Bu bölümde de Rorschach karakterinin geçmişini gördük. Karakterin isminin kaynağı ile ilgili bir teorimin doğru sonuçlanmış olması beni mutlu etti. Bir önceki bölümle favori bölümlerim oldular. In this chapter, we also saw the history of the Rorschach character. I'm glad that a theory about the origin of the character's name has come to fruit end correctly. They became my favorite chapters with the previous chapter.

A Room of One's Own A room of one’s own is an essay written by Virginia Woolf and published in 1929. Woolf discussed the position of women, stating that in order to publish, a woman must have money and her own room. She also makes some quotations from history to explain how it affected the literature by the domination of men and gives examples from Charlotte Brontë, Jane Austen, George Eliot, and the other authors’ lives. The book is organized into six sections. Each chapter approaches the topic from a particular perspective. It is impossible not to be impressed by chapter 3. Woolf tells the story of Shakespeare's imaginary twin sister. Judith, Shakespeare's sister, is just as brilliant as her famous brother but is a woman. She claims that a genius like Shakespeare's would not have been allowed to write in his day. The way she illustrates is definitely amazing. The conversational style of her is outstanding and lively. “Lock up your libraries if you like; but there is no gate, no lock, no bolt that you can set upon the freedom of my mind.” The book is written in 1929 and express the terms conditions, however, I, unfortunately, can see nearly everything which is mentioned in the book today. As a woman, I really like this feminist book. The author used her pen like a sword and expressed the truth. Virginia Woolf

5/5 Stars. (%92/100) The History of Middle-Earth is a 12 book series I really need to collect. Sadly, I have the physical copy of this book only even though I've read the others or at least checked them out. However, this is probably my favourite out of all. "Just as Sauron concentrated his power in the One Ring, Morgoth dispersed his power into the very matter of Arda, thus the whole of Middle-earth was Morgoth's Ring" (One of my favourite quotations from the book) The book is split into six parts: 1) 1951 revisions of Tolkien about The Silmarillion. You can compare and contrast with the earlier versions. 2)Annals of Aman: The detailed explanation of the creation of the world. There are also a great deal of information about the First Age and the concept of time in Valian Years. 3)Laws and Customs among the Eldar: As it can be understood from the title it talks about the customs of the elves especially about the names and how they breed. Tolkien also talks about the idea of soul and body here. 4)Athrabeth Finrod ah Andreth: One of my favourite chapters in the book. Finrod Felagund and a mortal woman Andreth talk about the issue of immortality by comparing the lives of Elves and Men. 5)Tale of Adanel: This is Tolkien's version of the original sin. (Adam and Eve) Andreth is the one who tells the story to Felagund. 6)Myths Transformed: My favourite chapter of the book because it deals with Morgoth (Melkor), Sauron, and the origin of the Orcs. There are lots of useful and important information in this chapter. Overall, it is a brilliant book and as I said before, it is my favourite in The History of Middle-Earth.
