This relatively short book is about an exceptional man with an extraordinary memory capacity. The author introduced him as "a Jewish boy who, having failed as a musician and as a journalist, had become a mnemonist". Whilst the focus of the book is the subject’s "vast memory", what the author eventually depicts is a man whose total personality is truly unique and complex. What emerges is a picture of a strange man with very great expectations but unfulfilled ambitions, whose inexhaustible memory capacity is matched only by his enigmatic nature. Quite fascinating is the author’s forensic and painstaking unraveling of the underlying mechanism behind this man’s phenomenal memory and unusual character (page 4). The book’s comprehensive approach was guided by the author’s precept that ‘the thoughtful physician is never interested merely in the course of a disease he happens to be studying at the moment, but tries to determine what effect a disturbance has on other organic processes…thus giving rise to the total picture of disease (pages 4-5). He exemplified this precept throughout the book, urging others to follow his example and study other psychological syndromes such as this (page 5). The author, a psychologist and neurologist, studied the protagonist, now known as Solomon Shereshevsky, for almost thirty years, starting in the 1920’s. His approach was methodical, typified by a keen attention to detail, and carried out over a long period of time. What he unearthed was a rare and exceptional man whose memory he described as ‘one of the keenest the literature on the subject has ever described’ (page 3). It didn’t take much testing for the author to realise that "it was impossible to establish a point of limit to the capacity or the duration of his memory" because he had the

Eklenebilecek eserleri, isimleri kabaca en bilindikleriyle geçeyim de durumun vahameti anlaşılsın: Edebiyat: Dickens ve Bronte Kardeşler (Great Expectations, Oliver Twist; Wuthering Heights, Jane Eyre vb.), Oscar Wilde (Dorian Gray), Henry James (The Turn of the Screw, Washington Square vb.), R.L. Stevenson (Dr. Jekyll ve Mr. Hyde, Olalla), H.von Kleist (Locarno Dilencisi), Dino Buzzati... Sinema: Roman Polanski (Rosemary's Baby, The Ninth Gate vb. uyarlamalar), Hitchcock (Rebecca, Suspicion vb.), Gaslight, The Innocents, The Haunting, Picnic at Hanging Rock, The Changeling, German Expressionism (The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari) ve takipçileri (Tim Burton: Batman Returns, Sleepy Hollow vb.), Interview with the Vampire, The Crow vb. uyarlamalar. Müzik: The Cure, HIM, Depeche Mode, Nick Cave and th Bad Sees, Joy Division, Theatre of Tragedy, Type O Negative, Inkubus Sukkubus. Çizgi Roman: Batman, The Crow, Hellblazer (Constantine), Sandman, Alan Moore'dan From Hell vb. Penny Dreadful fanzinleri.

The work of Truman Capote " In Cold Blood" is not only the first- true crime novel, but also a psychological and sosyological novel which is non-fiction. When Capote reads the news in the New York Times, he becomes interested in the murderers of four members of the Herbert Clutter family. As a result of a deep investigation and interviews with the killers, he presents the book, “In Cold Blood” to us. In his interview with the murderers, the author also deals with their psychological state and reveals the reasons for their tendency to crime. However, at the end of the work, we forget about the brutally committed murders and pity the killers and wish them salvation. Isn't the writer's narrative the reason we feel this way? I mean, the author believes Perry is innocent, and not only the author, Perry also believes he is innocent. At the end of the book, we cannot help thinking the following two questions; the first is that who is the culprit, the perpetrator or the reasons/persons that cause the crime? Experiences can alienate a person from life, isolate a person from society, hate those who have happiness that a person does not have, but this is not a sufficient reason for a person to become a murderer. Indeed, the history of many successful personalities is not good. The other is that does having bad parents or having childhood traumas make every person a murderer? For the second question, if our answer is yes, we support Durham Rule which is simply that an accused is not criminally responsible if his unlawful act is the product of mental disease or mental defect. Vice versa, if our answer is no, we support The M’ Naghten Rule which recognizes no form of insanity provided the defendant has the capacity to discriminate between right and wrong— legally, not morally.

An objective account and analysis of the rise and fall of Polly Peck International once the darling of the London Stock Exchange in 80's as the best performing stock of the decade and its founder Asil Nadir. The author complemented his impeccable writing style by providing useful supplementary info about economy, commerce, finance, politics, business management and how the City operates based on his solid background and experience. Revised and expanded edition published in 93 covers Nadir's escape from UK to Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in May 93 after almost 3 years of his unsuccessful trial under bail by the inefficient British legal system then which involved the unorthodox and mostly unsuccessful attempts without necessary evidence by the newly founded (in 87) Serious Fraud Office SFO to convict him for fraud and corruption... PS: First published in 1991 as "The Sultan of Berkeley Square: Asil Nadir and the Thatcher Years", the correct title of the 1993 edition of this book is "ASIL NADIR: FUGITIVE FROM INJUSTICE?" (ISBN 0-330-33155-8) where "IN" of injustice is in italics...
