Gerçek Punisher'ın DoğuşuÇizgi Roman
Punisher hiçbir zaman çok ilgimi çeken bir karakter olmamıştı. Varlığından hep haberdardım ve Max serisinin ne kadar övüldüğünü de hep biliyordum, ama hiç okumadım, okumak istediğim de olmadı açıkçası. Bunu değiştiren şey neydi, tam olarak emin değilim. Geçen yıl Circle of Blood hikayesinin varlığını öğrenmem de olabilir, Daredevil'da sürekli karşıma çıkması da. Punisher hep diğer marvel kahramanlarıyla çakışması gereken bir karakter gibi gelmişti bana. Bu cildi okuyunca gördüm ki kendi başına da harika bir karakter olabiliyormuş, ama önce biraz arkaplan.
Spider-man 129. sayıda karşımıza çıktı Punisher ilk defa. Bundan sonra gerek Spider-man sayılarında gerekse Daredevil sayılarında ara sıra kahramanların karşısına çıktı, ama hiçbir zaman o kadar saygı duyulan bir karakter olmadı. Belki duymuşsunuzdur Punisher'ın yerlere çöp atan insanları taradığını, kırmızı ışıkta geçen bir taksiciye saldırdığını. Evet, bunlar gerçekten yaşandı. Ama bunun sebebi yazarların Punisher'ı ciddiye almaması, onu öyle deli bir karakter olarak görmeleriydi (tabii Garth Ennis'in Born hikayesi ile Punisher'ın akıl sağlığını sorgulamasına daha 20 yıl vardı). Peki ne değişti? Çizgi roman sektörü. 80'ler çizgi romanların daha da karanlıklaşmaya başladığı bir dönemdi. Frank Miller'ın Batman ve Daredevil için yazdıkları, Alan Moore'un sektöre atılması, mangaların yavaş yavaş ingilizceye çevrilmesi ile kahramanlar bir "ciddileşme" dönemine girdi. Ve ayrıca 80'lerde Marvel çok sayıda mini seri işine girişmişti. Gerek Falcon, Hawkeye gibi uzun süredir var olan ama daha önce hiç kendi maceralarına atılmamış karakter için, gerekse Rocket Raccoon gibi yeni karakterler için mini seriler yazdılar. 1986 yılında ise yazar Steven Grant ve çizer Mike Zeck bir araya gelip Marvel'ı Punisher'a dört sayılık bir

Jennifer Hillier, 1974 yılında Kanada'da doğdu. Toronto Üniversitesi'nde İngiliz Edebiyatı ve Psikoloji eğitimi gördü. Yazarlık kariyerine kısa öyküler yazarak başladı. İlk romanı "Creep" 2009 yılında yayınlandı ve büyük beğeni topladı. Hillier, o zamandan beri "Jar of Hearts", "The Butcher", "Little Secrets" ve "The Silent Patient" gibi birçok roman kaleme aldı.
Hillier'ın romanları, gerilim ve gizem türünde yer alıyor. Hikayelerinde genellikle güçlü kadın karakterler ve karanlık aile sırları gibi temalar işliyor. Hillier'ın eserleri, sürükleyici bir üslupla yazılmış ve okurları sayfaların arasında adeta bir maceraya sürüklüyor.
Hillier, birçok ödüle layık görüldü. "Jar of Hearts" romanı, 2019 yılında Goodreads Choice Awards'da En İyi Gerilim Romanı seçildi. "The Silent Patient" romanı ise 2019 yılında New York Times'ın en çok satan kitaplarından biri oldu.

The Museum of Innocence
After finishing "The Museum of Innocence," I found myself in need to talk about it. I wanted my friends to know about this, but I wanted them to know about it slowly, in small drips, and tiny pieces.
Orhan Pamuk is such a master story-teller. He didn't just give you a relief from this journey. He took you to another path. A heroic one. A path that only a mad person would take. Well, mad or brave. Or simply in love!
Reading this book was not all a joyride. There were moments, when obsession really caught Kemal, whom later I called a friend just because I know so much about him, that I wanted to slap him in the face and say "Wake up! Enough already! Stop being this pathetic and get a life, man!" Of course, he didn't do that. I almost stopped reading at this point. That is how rich and heavy Pamuk can describe obsession.
It begins promisingly enough with a love triangle between Kemal, the young heir of one of Istanbul’s wealthiest family, Sibel, his Sorbonne-educated fiancée, and Fusun, a poor, distant relation who happens to be a nubile 18 year-old beauty contest finalist. Their illicit romance, consummated in an empty apartment filled with his mother’s abandoned possessions , slowly consumes Kemal’s life, and yet he still clings to Sibel, who is not only understanding but is also willing to nurse him through lovesickness for her rival. This earlier part of the novel is quite compelling, although the eroticism occasionally drifts towards the graphically icky territory (“As our kisses grew even longer, a honeyed pool of warm saliva gathered in the great cave that was our mouths combined, sometimes leaking a little down our chins…”). The autobiographical novel, describing Sylvia Plath painful ordeal when she becomes mentally ill is such a book.
This is a disturbingly frightening journey through the mind of a young girl suffering from depression in the 1950's. How far we have come in the last few decades in recognizing depression as a mental illness and treating it with much less radical techniques than electric shock.
The story opens with Esther in New York, during the summer of her collegiate years, working and modeling for a prestigious NY magazine. Through many obscure and complex observations, we slowly get a picture of her; Boston suburbanite, Smith college-type on scholarship, the world literally at her feet. But it is, still at these beginning stages, the random comment or action that begins to creep in to her personality that makes you aware that something is not quite right. Sure enough, as we move on, Esther becomes more and more un-hinged, doing things far outside of her personality.
Soon we reach a point where she attempts suicide and discusses suicide as the answer to get her out from “under the Bell Jar. I found myself having to put the book down occasionally to internalize what I’d just read. This is really an amazing ability that Plath had…flowing from one emotion to the other without noticing until the full force of Esther’s actions take hold. Where the first third of the novel is fairly light, the last two thirds are riveting, very difficult to put down.
To summarize, if you feel you're suffering from depression, madness, confusion about topics pertaining to society and sex, or just looking for a good read, The Bell Jar is definitely the book for you. I also advise, if you're seriously suffering from depression, to get help for yourself. There is no shame in it, and getting help
