1981 yılında Dublin'de doğdu. Gazetecilik ve İletişim Fakültesi'ni bitirdi. 2002'de yayımlanan ilk romanı Not: Seni Seviyorum İrlanda'nın yanı sıra İngiltere, Almanya ve Hollanda'da çok satan kitaplar arasında yer aldı. Roman 2007 yılında aynı adla gösterime giren bir filme de konu oldu. İkinci kitabı Where Rainbows End ile yine çok satanlar listesine giren Ahern, bu kitabıyla 2005 yılında Alman Corine Ödülü'ne de layık görüldü. Ahern ayrıca ABD'deki komedi Samantha Who?'nun yaratıcısı ve yapımcısıdır.
