There are several purposes for quantifying central tendency measures. The primary purpose of computing them is to determine a single value which may be used to indicate the center of an entire data set including magnitudes of the same data. Another purpose is that since measure of center may represent the whole data, it enables us to make comparisons within or between groups of data. (…) Third purpose is that average value can be used in computing some other statistical measures like skewness, kurtosis, and dispersion. (…) The measures of location are also categorized as “resistant and non-resistant” methods. A resistant measure is one that is less affected by outliers (extreme data values, unusual observations such as rain of a century in a city). The mode and median are the more resistant central tendency measures since their calculation does not require the use of all the values in the data. On the other hand, the mean (e.g., arithmetic, geometric, and weighted mean) is a less resistant measure of location, these methods require use of all the values, including outliers, in the data.

Schopenhauer, will to life
Although we think that we are the agents behind our quest for love, we are really only the instruments of a higher power that controls us and uses us for its purposes.
This higher power is the will to life, and its purpose is nothing more than existence itself, the mere continuation of life. There is no purpose to sex other than procreation; and there is no purpose to procreation other than the survival of the species. The will to life could not care less for the happiness of the individuals who serve it. Each individual procreates for the sake of the species; and once it performs its reproductive task, it is discarded and left to die.
