The Trojan War takes place!
We could say that La guerre de troi n’aura pas lieu is a prelude to the Trojan War. It takes place right at the eve of the Trojan War, just as how Jean Giraudoux wrote this when WW2 was obviously knocking on Europe's door. The anti-war and pacifism themes are really strong in this one.
Despite them desperately trying stop the war from taking place, despite all the logic, there’s no avail. It's written. Just like 'destiny'. They know that it's unavoidable if it’s written, they just want to believe /hope/ otherwise.
Such a frustrating read that’s still beautiful in a way. I had to read it for a class and i’ve come to the conclusion that surrealist literature isn’t my cup of tea. A vomit of words, that’s what Nadja is for me.
It taught me so much about the forms of storytelling, theatre, the theme of mimemis, comedy, tragedy and epic poetry. an essential reading for literature students indeed. it was surprisingly enjoyable.
