“He is more myself than I am. Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same. If all else perished and he remained, I should still continue to be, and if all else remained, and we were annihilated, the universe would turn to a mighty stranger. He’s always, always in my mind; not as a pleasure to myself, but as my own being.”

Aimé Césaire is a Martinican poet and a politician whose express himself in French with Negro characteristics. He does things with words beyond my imagination. A true preacher of Black people. Very strong and decisive. We as Kurds, have a lot to learn from Black struggle. A colonized land means colonized minds also. We have to decolonize our minds first. We have to stop the alienation. A must read. This was freaking hard to read man. Should've gone with the tr translation but I just didn't want to. Just a reminder to myself: never EVER read books in translation if it's not originally English written...

After the somewhat predictable nature of my previous read, Pick a Color was a refreshing change of pace. Souvankham Thammavongsa has a remarkable gift for capturing the profound within the mundane. The story explores the quiet rhythms of daily life with a precision that feels both concise and compelling. What I appreciated most was the minimalist style. The author doesn't rely on "filler columns" or elaborate plots; instead, she uses brief, impactful moments to deliver her message. The narrative is filled with poignant quotes that I found myself lingering over—lines that manage to say so much with very few words. It is a beautiful example of how a "short" story can leave a lasting impression. Much like a perfectly centered piece of pottery, there is nothing extra here; every sentence has a purpose. For any reader who enjoys observational literature, this story is a small but vibrant gem.

This book had been showing up on my YouTube for a long time, and from what I understood, the reviews weren’t very positive. I wanted to read it without being influenced by any opinions and decide for myself after finishing it—but I can say this: from the very first chapter, I was like, what am I even reading? Is it possible to not connect with a single character? They were all boring, like robots with just one assigned role. You’ll be the best friend, you’ll only exist for one chapter. Some things were way too obvious—for example, I immediately understood that the letter wasn’t from the mother. And then there were those birdcages, and the ring inside the cage… I don’t know, there was absolutely no chemistry between the two main characters. Zero romance. And honestly, we didn’t even get a proper “second chance” story. Blair felt like a teenager, and Declan was just… unclear as a character. The “just friends” trope also felt pointless. And for example, the whole Lottie situation felt rushed and underdeveloped. Honestly, I’ve realized not everyone is meant to be a writer—but if you already have a fanbase, becoming one seems pretty easy. I really wanted to like this book, but it didn’t even give the rom-com vibe I was hoping for. I only kept reading just to finish it, because from beginning to end, everything was so predictable. Somehow their problems would get resolved, and of course, it would end with a marriage proposal… It fell far below my expectations. I don’t think I’d recommend it—unless you enjoy boring romance stories.

I was initially drawn to this novel by the evocative nature of its title and the specific spectrum of color it represents. In Korean, the word 'parang' (파랑) possesses a unique depth; it encompasses not only the vastness of the blue sky but also the verdant freshness of greenery. This linguistic nuance creates a perfect bridge between the robotic precision of Coli and the natural world. Reading this story felt like a persistent state of déjà vu. I found myself deeply resonating with the metaphor of the horse, Today, who is trapped in a world where the only audible command is to go "faster." Through the shifting perspectives of Yeonjae, Coli, and Today, I felt the suffocating pressure of a society that prioritizes speed and efficiency over the quiet rhythm of life. While categorized as Sci-Fi, the book avoids the trap of an overly complex plot. Instead, the author uses futuristic details as a vessel for a much more grounded, emotional message. It is a story about empathy, the bond between species, and the courage to stop running. As the narrative comes full circle, ending exactly where it began, it left me with a sense of bittersweet peace—a reminder that sometimes, the most revolutionary act is simply to slow down.
