[English] The novel tells the story of five women in 1953 Iran who escape the narrow confines of family and society but still cannot fully break free from the patriarchal mindset. It envisions a future they will share in a world without men. Because it portrays women’s liberation, it was banned in Iran shortly after its publication. These five women, each with different backgrounds and life stories, are brought together by the state’s desire to exert control over women’s bodies and by the oppression and violence inflicted by men. One finishes the book wishing it were five hundred pages long, knowing it would have been just as enjoyable to read. It has also been adapted into a film, which I plan to watch as soon as possible. Thank you :)

In Beyinde Ararken Bağırsakta Buldum, Serkan Karaismailoğlu invites the reader to rethink the human body by shifting the focus from the brain to an often underestimated organ: the gut. The book centers on the relationship between the brain, the intestines, and the trillions of microorganisms living inside us, showing that many things we attribute to “the mind” are deeply connected to the body, especially the digestive system. What makes this book stand out is that it is not limited to anatomy or neuroscience alone. While Karaismailoğlu explains how the nervous system, hormones, and microbiota interact, he also enriches the narrative with etymology, historical anecdotes, and cultural references. Words, medical terms, and concepts are traced back to their linguistic roots, and scientific discoveries are placed within their historical context. This gives the reader the feeling that science is not isolated from language or history, but deeply intertwined with them. Another strong aspect of the book is the author’s language and tone. Instead of sounding like a textbook, Karaismailoğlu writes in a conversational, humorous, and engaging way. The examples he uses, often drawn from daily life, make complex biological processes easier to understand and surprisingly enjoyable to read. Even when dealing with technical topics, the book never feels heavy or inaccessible. Overall, Beyinde Ararken Bağırsakta Buldum is both informative and entertaining. It offers valuable knowledge about how our bodies work while also appealing to readers who enjoy learning about the origins of words and ideas. The book successfully combines science, history, and language, making it a rewarding read for anyone curious about the human body and the hidden connections that shape our behavior and

İlk 3 cildi, 2022 yılında İskandinav Konseyi Edebiyat Ödülü'nü almış. Ayrıca, serinin ilk cildi, İngilizce çevirisiyle (On the Calculation of Volume I) Uluslararası Booker Ödülü'ne aday gösterildi. I always avoid reading books related to pandemic or illness. I wanted to break down my prejudice. I've started to read this book thanks to my friend, Faye. Cora Zeng is a crime scene cleaner and haunted by her sister Delilah's ghost and murder. Her sister was pushed by a man who screamed, saying, "Bat Eater." This book clearly shows us the Asian-hate during Covid-19. Most people accused Asian people of starting the plague and grew hate toward them. Unfortunately, even I thought like that until now. Cora isn't scared of dead bodies. Instead, she terrifies with germs. While cleaning crime scenes, she finds hidden bats in every scene. She thinks that someone is killing Chinese women and deliberately putting bats in their home. She even assumes that person is after her. Are her thoughts real or delusional? If you want to know, start reading this book.

I must say the book is much more better than it's movie. And also I must add that I believe it’s one of the most powerful anti-war novels ever written. The story follows a young German soldier fighting in World War I, and basically shows how war destroys not just bodies, but the minds and humanity as well. The book is not about heroism or glory. It is the real face of war. Paul (our main character)and his friends start the war full of idealism, but as they face death, dirt, hunger and the total pointlessness of it all, they slowly lose their humanity. Everything in the book is given in detail. The front is brutal. But even when they go back home for a break/leave, they feel like they don’t belong there anymore. War has broken their connection to their home or homeland, too. The writing is simple and direct, I loved it. There is no fancy stuff, just the harsh but really harsh reality. In the end Paul, our hero, dies quietly. Noone cares about it. After all fighting, and loss, Paul’s death barely matters to anyone. He becomes just another nameless casualty in a war. The book has got a brutal, cold ending, but that’s exactly the point: the war doesn’t make heroes; it erases people.

Bodies: The Whole Blood-Pumping Story by Glenn Murphy I picked up Bodies: The Whole Blood-Pumping Story by Glenn Murphy on a whim, expecting a light, kid-friendly science read—and while it’s technically written for ages 12 and up, I’m 26 and I honestly learned a ton. I didn’t expect to be so entertained while absorbing facts about blood, organs, digestion, and all the bizarre things our bodies do on a daily basis. What really makes this book stand out is Murphy’s tone: it’s casual, witty, and packed with humor. He has this way of making science feel fun and accessible without ever dumbing things down. You get all the cool facts you wish you’d learned in school—complete with gross-out moments and weird trivia—but in a way that sticks. It feels more like you’re chatting with your smart, funny friend than reading a science book. Even though it’s aimed at younger readers, I think adults (especially those who feel like they’ve forgotten everything they learned in biology class) will find it just as informative and maybe even more fun. It also helped me get out of a bit of a reading slump—sometimes you just need something light, fast-paced, and genuinely enjoyable to remind yourself why you love reading in the first place. If you’re looking for something educational that doesn’t feel like homework, or if you want to spark your curiosity about the human body again, I highly recommend giving this one a try. Age is just a number—especially when you're learning how your actual body works!
