This is the graphic version of a very short but very impactful story. The Lottery isn’t just about a strange tradition, it’s a warning about what happens when people stop thinking sensitively. I always believed and supported this idea: Just because "everyone agrees on an idea/ideology" this doesn't always mean that it's right. Just because most people agree on something doesn’t automatically make it right. Democracy shouldn’t be the rule of the majority got the power, it should mean protecting everyone’s rights equally, no matter how many people vote for something. Without that balance, even a vote can become a kind of silent cruelty, a dictatorship. As we can see it in Turkey nowadays. In the story, everyone goes along with something horrible just because it’s always been done that way. No one questions it. No one asks why. That’s what makes the story powerful, I believe. It shows how dangerous it can be when people don’t use critical thinking, when they follow the group without stopping to think if something is actually right or wrong. Even though the town uses a fair system like a lottery, the outcome is cruel. It makes you ask: what’s the point of rules or votes if no one questions what they’re really doing? Jackson’s story is short, but it hits hard. You can just read it in minutes but it is going to make you think about how the humans are/can be cruel.

Yellowface means "the practice of white actors changing their appearance with make-up to play East Asian characters in films, plays, etc." I adore the author's style. She has a talent This is a book about plagiarism, internet trolling, jealousy, and racism. It revolves around the publishing industry. June Hayward, aka Juniper Song, is an infamous writer. Athena Liu, on the other hand, is the most famous writer. They have known each other since college but are not close friends. At the beginning, we can understand that although June doesn't like Athena, she meets with her occasionally. Later in one of their meetings, Athena invited June to her home to celebrate her Netflix deal for her book. June was stunned when she saw her apartment. A little unfortunate event happened and Athena died the other day. June didn't miss the chance and stole Athena's unpublished book. She edited some parts and published the book. She did this because of jealousy, thirst for being famous and to honor her so-called friend. Suddenly, she became a best-selling author. Even if she didn't leave any evidence about stealing the book, she was always cautious and anxious. She was obsessed with the comments, reviews on the Internet about the book. Another thing is Internet trolls. Nowadays, people think that they have the right to tell everything they want on the Internet. They don't have any limit. They are using their freedom of speech rights in a bad way. This topic was depicted very well by the author. June was getting paranoid about what was said about her on the Internet. We have to talk about Athena, too, because she wasn't a nice person, either. She stole people's stories and created books about them. She didn't give any importance to the people around her. She used them mostly. I'm not

The book, which is almost the most trending nowadays by Kafka, was first published in 1915. The story of the book, trying to convey a social and philosophical message, begins with a situation where Gregor Samsa wakes up to a beautiful day. At first, everything seems regular. But suddenly, he finds himself transformed into a big bug. Then, the realization is an inception to Gregor's new life, which will not continue with his standard routine of getting up and going to his boring job. The Metamorphosis is successful in giving diverse messages. However, this book made me consider reincarnation. What would happen if we changed our body but kept the same soul, or changed our soul but kept the same body? continuation of the book summary: pollsdergi.wordpress.com/2024/07/17/the-...

Nowadays as a result of development in communication technologies (mostly social media) people have tendency to lose control in their crucial tasks and they are desperate to take the control back. Our writer Cal Newport is aware of this situation and proposing 4 "Deep Work" strategy with examples. For him Deep Work is the most precious skill in our century and he explains Deep work as: "Professional activities performed in a state of distraction-free concentration that push your cognitive capabilities to their limit. These efforts create new value, improve your skill, and are hard to replicate". In order to achieve "Deep Work" benefits we should have ability to stay focus on a cognitively challenging task without being distracted. But because of the "Willpower" it is not easy to do. We should use our willpower energy in demanding and crucial task with Deep Work and after that we can take time for "Shallow Work" which he explains later on.
