"And when I finally regained my presence of mind, I felt a sudden wave of grief come over me. Far more than anger, I felt grief. A grief that was so violent, so intensely palpable, taht I felt like I could reach out and touch it."

And it was strange to know myself and be so certain when I’d spent so long not knowing myself—never really being allowed to discover who I was, what I might like or dislike, what I’d want or need. But I knew now. I had known the moment I asked him to stay. I knew what the consequences could be. I knew what I was, and what was expected of me, and I knew I could no longer be that. It wasn’t what I wanted in life. It had never been my choice. But this…this I wanted. Hawke was who I wanted. This was my choice. I was reclaiming my life, and it had started long before him. When I demanded to be taught how to fight, and when I made Vikter include me when he went out to help the cursed. Those were significant steps, but there had been smaller ones along the way. In a way, they were even more important. I’d been changing, evolving just like the gift I was forbidden to wield but remained determined to use. It was in every adventure and risk I took. It was in my desire to experience what I’d been told was not for me. That was why I’d initially stayed in the room at the Red Pearl with Hawke. It was the way I’d met the Duke’s stare and smiled at him when I’d been unveiled. It was when I’d spoke to Loren for the first time, and when I went out to the Rise. My evolution kept me quiet as the Duke delivered his lessons, and when I sliced Lord Mazeen’s arm and hand and head from his body, I’d been cutting through the chains I never chose to wear. I just hadn’t realized it then. There were so many little steps over the years and especially in recent weeks. I didn’t know when it had finally happened, but I knew one thing for certain. Hawke wasn’t the catalyst. He was the reward.

the nineteenth-century French mathematician Henri Poincaré was wrestling with one of the hardest problems in maths, and he had narrowed his spotlight down onto every squiggle of it for ages, and he was getting nowhere. Then one day when he was away on a trip, suddenly, as he was stepping into a bus, the solution came to him in a flash. It was only when he turned off the spotlight of his focus, and let his mind wander on its own, that he could connect the pieces, and finally answer the problem. In fact, when you look back over the history of science and engineering, many great breakthroughs don’t happen during periods of focus – they happen during mind-wandering.

5/5 Stars (%90/100) This has been on my "to-read" list for over 3 years now. I finally decided to stop being lazy and finish the book. It was really amazing and much better than I expected. The title is clear: the book showcases and explains pretty much every important place, event, journey etc. The maps are the most detailed ones I have seen so far. There are a lot of maps of Middle-Earth on the Internet but I have never seen so detailed and beautifully drawn maps before. The book is split into many chapters including the first three ages of Arda, The Hobbit and LoTR. From the map of Nirnaeth Arnoediad (The Fifth Great Battle against Melkor) to Bilbo and Frodo's journey in the 3rd Age, there are many more maps and pictures. I especially enjoyed the maps which show the journey of certain characters like Turin, Nienor, Beren and Luthien and so forth. The maps about the First Age (and before that) are also super interesting. I would recommend the book to every Tolkien geek. I will probably get a physical copy in the future and look at the maps from time to time.

Ovid's Orpheus exemplifies not only the victory of love but also, in a certain sense, the victory of art. It is both as poet and as lover that Orpheus wins over the deities in the underworld of book 10. Though the Ciconian women finally destroy him, the power of his song temporarily neutralizes their missiles, and his rhythms move the natural world to spontaneous sympathy for his fate (Mef. 11.44-49)

Inspired by David Copperfield, Barbara Kingsolver’s Demon Copperhead supplants nightmarish 19th childhoods with 21st Century realities that would curl Dickens’ toes. Demon was born to a single teen mom who lacked the foresight to see the name her little redheaded boy would inevitably be stuck with when she named him Damon. That was the least of

“Finally, thank you, reader. Thank you for seeing this story and not turning away. It happened. It happened to my family. It has happened, in other forms and with other faces, to other communities and other individuals all over the world. It is happening right now, and it will happen again. We cannot allow it to happen again. Love and fortitude to you all.”

5/5 Stars (%87/100) Although I enjoyed it a lot, this volume is also all over the place with many people fighting in different places at the same time. The author also keeps showing more memories of the characters and though they are pretty interesting, it looks like he is trying to drag the story and prepare us for the big finale. Shinobu and Doma's fight is one of the most interesting battles in the series as well as Zenitsu meeting his senpai once again. However, the one fight that we were all waiting for was between Tanjiro and Akaza. It is also great that Akaza remembers Kyojuro and acknowledges Tanjiro's strength. Finally, the last chapter in this volume is one of my favorites as we see more of Tanjiro's father. Overall, despite some shortcomings, it is still a great chapter.

“I’m gay,” Henry tells him flatly. One of his broad palms flattens over Alex’s hip, and Alex inhales sharply, either at the touch or at hearing Henry finally say it out loud. “Not something wise to pursue as a member of the royal family. And I wasn’t sure you weren’t going to murder me for kissing you.” “Then why’d you do it?” Alex asks him. He leans into Henry’s neck, dragging his lips over the sensitive skin just behind his ear. He thinks Henry might be holding his breath. “Because I—I hoped you wouldn’t. Murder me. I had . . . suspicions you might want me too,” Henry says. He hisses a little when Alex bites down lightly on the side of his neck. “Or I thought, until I saw you with Nora, and then I was . . . jealous . . . and I was drunk and an idiot who got sick of waiting for the answer to present itself.” “You were jealous, ” Alex says. “You want me.” Henry moves abruptly, heaving Alex off balance with both hands and down into his lap, eyes blazing, and he says in a low and deadly voice Alex has never heard from him before, “Yes, you preening arse, I’ve wanted you long enough that I won’t have you tease me for another fucking second.”

After Ragnarök
Then I see a second earth rising from the great sea. It will be green, with waterfalls and eagles flying over it as they hunt for fish within the mountain rivers. And then the Æsir (who survive) will meet on Idavoll plain and talk of what has come to pass: the Midgard serpent and the great events that they have seen. And they will recall the runes from ancient times that Odin the Mighty One once gained. After that they will find the golden gaming pieces, lost in the grass by those who played there in ancient times. Then crops will grow in the fields without being sown and all that is broken will be made whole. Baldr will live once more and he and Hod (once divided by conflict) will live together in peace. Wooden slips that foretell the future shall be made once more and Haenir (who once relied on Mimir for his knowledge) will himself choose the slips to interpret them as the world once again is settled by people.I see a fine hall that is brighter than the sun and has a roof of gold. It will be there – at Gimle – that the lords of this new world will live in happiness and peace. Finally, the great and powerful one will come: he who rules over all. He will come from above to the place where once the gods gave judgements. Then the dragon will come flying; he will rise up from the hills that are dark as when the moon is down. Nidhogg will carry the bodies of the dead on his wings as he flies over the plain. Now I lie down and am silent.
"I’m your father," he finally said, as if that were of any consequence. I stood up slowly, towering over him. "And you forgot that before I was even born. You should have known I was going to make you pay for what you did with Monroe.” His eyes widened as realization sunk in. He’d had no idea through our entire conversation that this was related to what he’d done with her. Fucking idiot. “I better not see you ever again,” I threw over my shoulder as I ambled out of the office, resuming my earlier whistling. He would think of me for the rest of his life. But I vowed I’d never think of him again.
