Spirit of Capitalism
> "It was the power of religious influence, not alone, but more than anything else, which created the differences of which we are conscious to-day” Max Weber saw reformation as a new form of religion control, not elimination of Church’s ones. His aim focused on finding intimate relationship between asceticism and capitalism. He

The author does an incredible job of world-building and breaks YA stereotypes by avoiding love triangles, or really any romance at all (other than between minor characters). It was refreshing to read a book where the main character, a female, doesn't make decisions based on romantic love. Instead, the focus is on family - chosen and biological - and what makes us "human". The author's inclusion of LGBTQIA characters was subtle and well-written - their sexuality was not treated like a "big moment", but instead it was simply another facet of their character. I love that this book is a stand-alone, but would've enjoyed it as a series as well.

The thrill of doing something prohibited
"I'm disappointed. In the end it turns out you're just like everyone else. Their vomit-like chatter and laughter hardening together like shit. Who has a crush on who... Who doesn't like who... All scum that would be better off dead! Just spewing out pretty words. Inside... all of you! Sex, sex! In the end, fucking sex is all you want!" I really don't like Nakamura, but she is the only person who gets the flowers of evil that is blossoming in both Kasuga and her. The rotten and dark side of all humans is something we have to face at one point. And in reality, some people actually do face this part very early because of dark events in their lives. From what I get, Nakamura is someone who had to face this part because of bad events that happened to her whereas Kasuga deliberately delves into this darker world and his darker self and exploring it through the French poet's work, and now partially with Nakamura forcing him. I had watched the anime before, and as far as I know it's unfinished because it didn't get a second season in animation. But I remember this very iconic episode. It's bland in manga but the animated version of the classroom scene in the anime is so cathartic that I go back to watch it from time to time. This manga does a very good job making me feel rebellious against this wretched and stupid world at one moment and then making me feel embarrassed for feeling so by toning down those moments and turning them into shameful moments. It's a roller coaster.

Amalia Gray and her graveyards. Never thought that the gravestones could talk and have so much to tell. it is a beautiful book with lots of adrenaline . one moment you’ll be able to solve a mystery with Amalia and another moment you’ll be able to see her inside world which is beautiful. if one loves thrillers and ghost stories with a little glance of romance, I would say ; one should read it. Without fuss and without unnecessary describe of environmental factors. Enjoy.

The universe is a joke. Even before I was shown the meaning of life in a dream at 17 (then promptly forgot it because I thought I smelled pancakes), I knew this to be true--and yet, I have always felt a need to search for the truth, that nebulous, ill-treated creature. Adams has always been, to me, to be a welcome companion in that

You will never think about your brain in the same way again. The brain is often portrayed as an organ with different regions dedicated to specific tasks. But that textbook model is wrong. The brain is a dynamic system, constantly modifying its own circuitry to match the demands of the environment and the body in which it finds itself. If you were

I really don't think I need to tell y'all that I loved this because I've been raving about this series since the moment I started it back in January but for the sake of clarity - I love this. I believe everyone (even people that have no attachment to it at all) has a Harry Potter story under their belt. Whether it be the story of

Since pretty much everyone I know has read these books, I figure reviewing them is pretty pointless. But with the new book coming out in a couple of weeks, I have to go through them beginning to end. To make the reviews more entertaining, I will be doing them in a variety of unexpected formats. For this review, I will be writing as Crookshanks fan

I can now clarify, not only with myself, but with every other King fan, that this particular book gave me rather noticeable palpitations and for a moment or two, it made me feel quite faint. I've seen 'The Green Mile' Tom Hanks film adaptation, and although that was also amazing, and it makes for edge-of-the-seat viewing at times,

This is one of Philip K. Dick's earlier stories that was unpublished until a few years ago. I found this in one of those giant book-overstock stores that's open for a while until they run out of inventory or money to rent the storefront. Fitting, considering certain elements of this story. Except for the fact that the story is set in 1952, the characters and the plot of this book could just as well be found today. In fact, there were moments where conversations between characters seemed like something one might overhear on the streets right this very moment. It's fascinating how little has changed since the 50s in regards to religion, politics, and especially the mixture of the two. The story itself is the descent of a young man, typical of the age, or any age, into animalistic fury. He's a dreamer, stuck in a salesman job he hates, looking for meaning in his life while feeling stuck by the trappings of society. He starts to look for another way, tries out the big new religion sweeping through town, tries to drown himself in drink, even tries to become the most perfect everyday citizen; but it all leads him deeper and deeper into the hole of unfulfillment he digs for himself. Things get dark, incredibly, wickedly dark. That's the genius of Dick's writing. He creates this vividly descriptive world and pulls you in, then takes you into the darkest workings of the human mind. He would later use science fiction to explore these emotions, playing with allegory and metaphor, but early on he wrote bleak, starkly contrasting reality, and it's terrifying.

Brief Summary of the Book
The main character loses his father in a vacation accident when he is just a baby, and his mother experiences memory loss. The reason for his mother's memory loss is her belief that the baby (the main character) died in the accident. Years pass, and the protagonist achieves various successes, eventually finding his mother. The moment mother sees her son, her memory is restored, and they embrace, finally ending the story.
